Indeed, it's usually the editor that cuts scene from movies, but excluding The Scouring was totally PJ's idea.

maybe, still a good sales tactic

yeah, I agree

The Return of the King was the my second favorite, the first was The Fellowship of the Ring of course, my favorite part was to see the friendship loiaty of Sam to Frodo and when the Wizard says that the end was not yet coming and says that there's the Paradise etc...Well, I'm now just waiting for Hobbit movie now!

okie you read the book Fatis?

I think I need to read the books again - I haven't read them since just before Fellowship came out! And I used to read them every year, ever since I was seven! I MISS THE BOOKS!!!

well phoe, I have some serious LOTR reading to do as well, but its gonna take me time

Have you read the books Fire?

I got the Silmarillon out of the library, so I look forward to reading that finally.

Get ready to be bored out of your gourd. 😄

i started reading a sample of the silmarillon online somewhere, and it was already majorly boring after the first couple of paragraphs!

I think when Pippin sewered allegiance to him he didnt quite know how much of a psycho Denethor was.

Isnt the ending totally different in the book?
Someone said in the book when the hobbits return to the Shire that Sarauman is running it 😑
That would have been way cooler then that big ass ending 😖

A few scenes could have been cut from it, the ending I mean.

No, you wouldn;t have liked it, Kes. A whole new, and not very exciting, plot about removing him from the Shire starts, and it would have been an utterly weird thing to put in after the main plot had finished.

THEN you had to have all the other stuff as well.

oi. that was tedious

Yeah, the film ending was more succinct and powerful - although I hear the end of Saruman is in the EE, but not in Hobbiton, its at Orthanc.

The main plot finishes about 2 or 3 chapters before the book ends. It is mostly tying off loose ends - it would not have worked cinematically.

Well if the movie ended with them seeing Sauroman is running the Shire it would have been cool.
The ending to Return is to boring. It kinda breaks the vibe, they should have cut half the stuff.

You mean the movie or the book?

I think she means movie

But that would be NOTHING like the books- Peter can only change so much. To have it actually end with Saruman running the Shire is kind of ridiculous.

My point is, if he had added the rest of the ending from the books, you would have found it worse, believe me.

Indefinitely. Such an ending just wouldn't work at all
