these bands are not very old and i think they represent the newer of metal " progressive metal" and they rock as hell.

Opeth, In Flames, Lacuna Coil and Killswitch are great.

Deicide, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Soulfly, Lamb of God, Exhorder, Ministry, Rob Zombie, Napalm Death, Pantera, Down, Static-X, Life of Agony, Blood for Blood, Sevendust, Hatebreed, Clutch, Machinehead, Slipknot, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Prong, Entombed, Biohazard, Danzig, Rollins Band, Damageplan, Anthrax, Type O Negative, ..............are all great examples of what good metal music is, and that is doesnt suck.

I loves me metal.

Opeth. droolio

metal is cool.

Metal's good, not really what I listen to on a daily basis, but I still like it.

Metal is great.I basically listen to all types of Metal, old and new, from Iron Maiden too System of A Down, and from Metallica to Sepultura 馃槑

i find it funny that there are 26 votes saying metal is shit yet only one comment about it

its the same as any genre in the sense that there are people who like the more commercial metal (youe linkin park and what not) and those who listen to less commercial stuff and who attack the commercial stuff with more vitriolic hatred than people who dont like metal at all

you see the same thing happening in the rap forum...the commercialised rappers are slated while the underground artists are heralded as being better

then if an artist jumps from relative obscurity to international fame they are a sell out...regardless if their music has changed or not

the fickle world of musicians and their "fans"

Opeth are getting bigger and bigger. That's not their fault and as long as they don't compromise theirselves or their music for popularity like Trent Reznor did, I will always support the artists I love.

Like its a bad thing...

It's not "bad". I don't particularly care to see people raping a band when they get big though.

Nothing to do with the band, I just don't particularly like that part of it.

So if the band get big,and people who also like pop music start listening to it,you'll stop listening to it? 馃槙

Sounds shallow...

happens alot though...

i've never really thought that it could be a bands fault that they made it big particularly if their music style hasn't changed...but so called "purists" will still try and label them as sellouts

itd even more bizzare when the opposite happens

take metallica for example...their top 3 selling albums were the black album, and justice for all amd master of puppets...a total of 28 million albums sold...when they changed their style they were labelled as sell outs for citing oasis as an influence...since then their 4 albums only sold a total of 14 million copies...half the sales for more albums...

i personally never liked the change but as AC pointed out....they make the music they want to make..not the music their fans want to make...(trent reznor AC...remember...he's doing it for him...not for you)

Where did I say I'll stop listening to it? You got that on your own didn't you?

Yes.

Jaden: I couldn't care less if Trent changed musical direction and it was shit. I'd just not like the album, not have a problem with him. It's the fact that he did actually and factually compromise himself for money.

He used all the excuses in the world, but anyone with a brainstem can tell they're BS. Especially seeing as he built up a specific, "I hate network" image, only to push his album on CD:UK because his most critically acclaimed album sold poorly.

you know more about than i do...but then only he knows his reasons for changing the music he makes...peoples listening taste change as they hear more and different stuff and this will have an effect on the music they make...

I think what people meant with Metallica is that they got shit (not that I agree, just commenting). People throw the term sell-out about too freely.

Yeah that's fine with me. I don't care what direction he chooses to take his music in, I'd not have stopped supporting him for that, just voiced my dislike of the album.

It's the fact that he did what he did after.

guess the re-release of pretty hate machine backs up that point (again saying it was nothing to do with money)

The only genre that sucks is rap, becase it has very little actual musical value.
