Spoiler:
Why is infiltrating the Villiage of Rock such a big deal? 'Most people would lose their minds or join the enemy?' The hell? Why didn't she recognise him? Is it populated by succubi or something?

Sasori. Duh.

Some big plan that we may or may not see the results of. Rock is a major- and often hostile- village, so I suspect getting good intel on them is very important, especially if it looks like they might have a specific project in the works.

Probably 'lose their mind or join the enemy' refers to the stress of a long term infiltration. Some break, some defect.

I think its stupid that just infiltrating somewhere is that hazardous to your mental welbeing without an explanation for why.

Thanks for the explanation, dudes.

It seemed like Oro was pretending to be the lady to **** with Kabuto by pretending, "Who are you!!!!"

That would have been a new low for Oro (it rhymes).

Being a spy doesn't sound that fun. One could become very paranoid, always wondering if someone is suspecting you. Would make you teeter on the edge of sanity wondering if you can even accomplish the mission or if you'll die tomorrow. If your life is under constant danger, you might crack.

On the flip side, you might become so satisfied in your "new life" that you forget the old. You stop caring about the details of the mission and eventually switch sides. A person who shows traitorous qualities might even become a double agent.

In order to pick a spy that would not do all those things, you'd need someone innocent enough that no one would suspect them, talented enough to get the job done, calm enough not to crack under pressure, but most importantly, they need a reason not to switch sides. Kabuto's Mother actually seems like the perfect type for a spy.

High-pressure long term situations, spies crack all the time.

And without the release that combat has- sure, you could die in combat, but it ends. In spying, you have that pressure for yours even if no-one actually suspects you're there (and with ninja, they likely do keep a closer eye out and suspect spies).

Indeed.

I'm sure medics are probably a natural choice for those reasons, but they're still used because they're so useful and doing a lot of healing demonstrates their worth/trustworthiness in the eyes of many, only fairly dedicated anti-spy types keep their guards up around a doctor who does their job well.

You know...I'm starting to like Kabuto more and more. His backstory is fleshing out a lot of his character and he's actually becoming one of the more interesting Naruto villains.

I just realized how ironic Kabuto's role in the story is...he spent his whole life trying to find an identity and now he is working with a man who keeps his a secret.

While Kabuto's backstory has beed handled well this whole theme of villains without identity isn't particularly satisfying for me, I want to believe there will be some villains who aren't just confused people to the point of breaking. Too much pathos for me.

anyone else having trouble with mangareader?

Yes. Change your proxy to a UK proxy server. Read back in this thread: I wrote up a big long post about how to do everything in Chrome.

Thank you Bulgaria. haermm2

huh, yeah I've had some trouble with manga reader myself, but it seems to be letting up now on it's own. odd.

yeah, The AuraAngel, this is shaping up to be interesting. I didn't like Kabuto at first, but he is slowly beginning to shape up into an interesting character. and yeah, his situation now is pretty ironic.

Oh yea, a bit of world building: Apparently there are places outside of the villages where one can learn ninjutsu, especially stuff like medical jutsu, but it's considered uncommon for the ninja to be any good (I.e. "especially for someone who's not a ninja!"😉 suggesting the villages have the best knowledge and such.

speaking of him, didn't oro say that he wanted to thank him for "giving" him kabuto back when naruto went 4 tails the first time?

oh yeah, and did you guys think danzou used shisui's sharingan to coerce that woman? he was rubbing his eye or something and well oro was there at his side and we know he helped danny get that eye.

Nah, this is too early. He only got the eye 7 years ago, and I think Kabuto's too young here. He's probably rubbing because, hey, he's missing an eye.

Orochimaru left pre-massacre too.

shisui died before the massacre

Excellent observation. This is what you would expect from an extreme fantasy version of mostly learned "martial arts." Only the military power houses would have the best training in such arts.

Based on ps's observations, I do not know if we can conclude either way.

That flash back sees longer than 7 years ago. What do you think?

Personally, I think Oro put the eye in Danzo well after the massacre.

Yeah, he did. It's why I said 'Sasori', as Sasori had sent Kabuto to spy on Orochimaru.

I don't think he did. He and Orochimaru simply blackmailed her.
If Orochimaru was a part of Root, Danzou would have had something on him, or Orochimaru was loyal to him. Which is why it is plausible that Orochimaru and Danzou maintained contact long after Orochimaru defected, which was some time before the Kyuubi first attacked Konoha 16 years ago.

but if orochimaru found kabuto first......
