It makes sense if they end it that way. Sasuke is this generation's Madara. Madara was supposed to take up the mantle of Hokage but turned it down.
Therefore, in order to finally get shit right, this generation has to do what the previous generation did not do: an Uchiha is Hokage.
However, Naruto becomes the Shinobi alliance Kage.

I know where you're coming from but it would be pretty damn weird to see everyone accept Sasuke as Hokage after all the shit he did. Then again did he actually do something wrong? I mean prior to Taka he was kind of a good guy and even afterwards all he did was kill Danzo and some samurai: of whom the SA can't even pretend to give a damn about. Still it just seems weird to reward such conduct with the Kage title.
From Konoha's perspective:
- He abandoned the village, giving secrets and servitude to Orochimaru, the man who invaded Konoha, killed a bunch of people including the Third.
- Tried to kill Naruto and the rest of Yamato's team when they tracked him down.
- Teamed up with Tobi and by extension Akatsutski, the organization who invaded Konoha on a few occasions, killed tons of people and attacked other allied villages (Kumogakure, Sunagakure).
- Tried to kill Naruto, Kakashi and Sakura. Again.
So basically, it would make absolutely zero sense for Konoha as a Village to trust or forgive Sasuke, even if individual members of it who are in the know, like Naruto, do.
But this is a really dumb ****ing manga, so it could very well happen. I'm beginning to get the impression that Sasuke won't get the repentant death he deserves.

But admit it, the Obito suplexing Kakashi pic made you laugh.
I don't mind if it ends this year either. It's been going on for 14 years now and.
Still, the manga ending some time this year means roughly 40-50 chapters are left. That's an awfully short way to go to the end, given how Kishi's been stretching the current arc. In just 40-50 chapters, Kishi has to squeeze in Madara losing to a Deus Ex Machina, Naruto vs. Sasuke v2, Sasuke becoming Hokage (lol), and the epilogue where we see the shit everyone has gotten up to after the war and the babies they've made and stuff.
For reference, Kishi made the Tobi reveal over a year ago.

Right now the only people I can see having a legitimate grievance with Sasuke is the Land of Iron(Sasuke killed Samurai which remains his most heinous act since nothing else worked out how he wanted) and Kumogakure since he killed J. Both deeds mitigated by the fact that without Sasuke and the Edo Kage Obito would have won.

Indeed. In the real world Sasuke would still be punished because of his douchiness. A law is a law and he's broken quite a lot of them. But the world of Naruto seems to care more about the end result rather than the acts. Kumogakure kidnaps a Jinchuriki but since Minato stopped them all was well. And yeah Gaara repeatedly tried to kill Lee but no one cares. And it seems actions like killing people can be forgiven if the person does something nice. Gaara killed an old drunk but saving the village seemed to make that a non-issue.
It's certainly different but it is consistent with the rest of the series.
Sasuke left Konoha to train under Orochimaru because he wanted to get strong enough to kill Itachi. Itachi was with Akatsuki and the murderer of all of the Uchiha clan. Only a select few knew that Sasuke was on a mission to kill a loyal Konoha operative which makes Sasuke leaving that much worse on Konoah's part (not Sasuke's).
Everything Sasuke did after leaving was pretty much entirely Konoha's fault. When Sasuke finally had all the facts and got confirmation from Itachi, he calmed his shit and sided with Konoha.
However, I think Sasuke is about to pull an ape-shit evil Madara Part 2 ploy. Madara will be defeated and Sasuke will be the ultimate evil.
Do you think Kishimoto has the balls to end the manga with Sasuke successfully using the Moon's Eye Plan? 😄
