Considering the damage 5th gate was doing to Lee, I think 8th gate should just atomize Gai. Like, after doing his cool shit his body morphs info pure chakra, he says his goodbyes and scatters away into the breeze, becoming one with nature.
And then Gai's breeze-body will have buttsex with the wind?

1st gate- not much side effect, just makes the user slower and weaker but still capable of fighting.
3rd-5th- Increasing levels of tiredness/great exhaustion.
6th- You're entirely immobile, you lack the energy to do anything for a significant period of time. Hope you brought someone willing to carry you home.
7th gate- You hurt all over, you lie there and the slightest move, or outside contact, is painful.
My prediction from 8th is, perhaps, the body bursts into flames and they go out in a literal blaze of glory.

Maybe Sakura can stick her hand inside Gai's chest and start forcibly squeezing his heart.
Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. Whatever happens, I just hope he survives somehow. If he does turn into a statue while doing the nice guy pose though, I think I'd be happy.

Question: What if Izanami was used on someone like say Shino who has demonstrated little to no negative emotions? Would it even work based on what Orochimaru said?I hate this move so much lol.
I think Mighto Gaiuuuuuuuuuuuuuu is a much better choice for no negative emotions.
He didn't even see his negative self when looking in the waterfall on Turtle Island!!! haha
Also, Naruto may be a good choice, too, since he conquered his dark self.

Either or is Izanami only capable of working on depressed d-bags like Kabuto?

Why do you hate Izanami?
Because the execution of the technique is the single worst thing about the arc. 👆

I wouldn't say that about Izanami. Sasori pussing out or Nagato being beaten because Kabuto sucks with ET control could probably match....nope it can't 🙁
The Sasori(and Shin) thing would be the worst if it amounted to anything. Not a single other ET Body disappeared through emotional moments like these two so I really do wonder what happened there. As it is my mind just kinda registers them as sealed even though that didn't, but may as well have, happen.
Nagato got to do pretty good against Naruto and Bee but the fight really did need to be shortened a touch since we needed to speed things along(since that was still in the heart of the warfare and the characters were not experiencing ending fatigue). Only problem with the fight is that it, along with the Kabuto fight, sacrifices the presentation of the other characters to make Itachi just look that good.
Izanami basically made that entire fight a waste of time. What could have been an interesting situation where the two brothers have to work together to overcome Kabuto's safeguards is instead resolved by a move that had no foreshadowing whatsoever in universe.

Not so fast.
People speculated, in in spades, that Kabuto would eventually break free. I believe it was on this very board that someone speculated (Q99 or was it you?) that Kabuto would break free a changed person.
Edit - Here is the foreshadowing I was talking about:
http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/587/6
It's there in very clear text that what Kabuto did this last chapter was foreshadowed in spades. Exactly what Itachi said had to happen to break the loop is exactly what happened with Kabuto.
