Genjutsu is used to disguise the classrooms before the chuunin exam, for one example. Purely misdirection.
Genjutsu was used fairly defensively by the rain ninja in the forest too (when team 7 was with Kabuto)- simply to hide their position while they used kunai for offense.
It's just making someone see/feel something. Why wouldn't you be able to use it for other purposes?

Well, it would appear that Tsukuyomi is specifically offensive: used to attack the pyche of the person. There's nothing to contradict that...which was my point. It would appear to be a specific type that attacks the person's psyche and slows down time perception to the victim.
I don't think the Inifinite Tsukuyomi does that. It won't have any of those traits...at least it shouldn't.

I don't really think that was Tsukiyomi. Even though Danzo references Itachi's Tsukiyomi, no one really calls that genjutsu Tsukiyomi. Madara also said it was a weak genjutsu that didn't last very long.
In any case, that wasn't confirmed to be Tsukiyomi. I was going to post that point to refute ddm's point, but the lack of confirmation stopped me.
I think it was very obvious, that that was just an immature version of Tsukiyomi. Much like Sasuke's Susanoo, which was originally thought to have distinct powers and features, but was recently revealed to just be an undeveloped version of the one Itachi used. Danzo sure made it sound like Tsukiyomi, and not to mention when Sasuke did the same thing to Kirabi, it looked completely identical to Tsukiyomi.

See, that's what I think too, but the problem is, Kishi has never confirmed whether or not it truly is Tsukiyomi. It could almost as easily be another MS genjutsu that we don't know about.

All the dead Akatsuki except Hidan. Course I guess he can't be summoned if he can't ever die. But really I guess it's going to prove once and for all if the Edo Tensei versions are weaker or as strong as their normal selves. But Shikamaru on the war planning council, and with Shikaku. They better come up with one major plan with not only those two minds but a whole room full of people they trust to come up with war plans.

Nagato. The one on the right is Itachi.
Only 6 Akatsuki members are dead or incapacitated (Itachi, Hidan, Kakuzu, Deidara, Sasori, Nagato), not counting Orochimaru. The last one doesn't resemble Hidan in the slightest, nor is Hidan dead, so it must be Itachi.
Weirdly, none of them have Akatsuki cloaks, they instead have cloaks that look like the ones Hebi used to wear.

damn Kabuto got much stronger. it seems likely that Itachi, Sasori, Deidara, Kakuzu, and Nagato are going to be used in the upcoming war. wonder what will happen if (or when) Itachi runs into Sasuke again.
