They're good in their role, but they lack the power to get *too* far, they have to get pretty high ranked before gaining offensive jutsu. The Hyuga seem stronger.
The Sarutobi were up there before they lost two of their best.
If A and Bee are part of the Yotsuki, they likely are the strongest we know followed by the Hyuga.
I wonder if there's a Terumi clan or a Yuhi clan...

Still, with prep, Shikamaru managed to find a way to take down one of Kakuzu's hearts, and he incapacitated Hidan. His father is supposed to be much smarter and better at jutsu than Shikamaru is. Not to mention, Shikaku is the Jounin Commander.

Probably, we just haven't seen any yet. They do apparently control a fair amount of land where Hidan was buried, and saying it's watched over wouldn't mean much if it was done so just by Shikamaru and Shikaku.
The Aburame are good, we've seen a variety of strong members for them (We know at least one other besides Torune had the destruction nanobug jutsu).
Hm... I wonder of Gaara's family is part of a clan. They lack specific clan jutsu but are really skilled and influential, and we know five members (the siblings, the dad, and the uncle).

Eh, Shino is arguably better than Shika. Shika just GETS to shine. Shino is nearly as smart, and stronger, without a jutsu that is situational. And his father is probably as far above him and Shikaku is above Shikamaru.

Though the Aburame's do have a limit of the strength of their bugs. While they can get better with bugs or control more bugs, the strength of individual bugs is limited to which ones they've bred, they can't increase attack power simply by adding more chakra like others.
I think Shino probably had the least growth over the timeskip (though admittedly starting from a high point).

We've never even got to see Shino really, truly fight except once. And with his personality, and how he goes out on high rank missions just because when most of the others have only done them out of having to, I highly doubt he wouldn't have improved just as much as the others.

we have seen other chouza the ones that pein killed. they came to help kakashi
My prediction is Madara is either the Sage of the Six Paths who lost his powers somehow, or just an uber Uchiha who wants to gain the powers of the Sage of the Six Paths.
It seems that the Sage was the one who originally possessed the EMS.
