If it hadn't been stated, I'd consider Deidara stronger than Sasori. 😐
Sasori is way more dangerous than Deidara for the simple fact that, if Deidara uses his most powerful attack, he no longer poses a threat. Sasori can kill on a grand scale just by having his initial form (and all his other blades) drenched in poison; one scratch is a kill for him.
Honestly, if Sakura and Chiyo hadn't fought him, i don't see how anyone could have beaten him... those two were literally the perfect match.

I think part of that is how difficult it must be for most to fight Sasori- you can't use weapons due to the Kazekage puppet. You can't get scratched even once if you don't have a way to deal with poison fast. His defense is high, he might not be where he appears at all, he's like fighting multiple foes at once, and doesn't have a lot of normal vulnerabilities. I'd suspect that as he has 200 puppets we haven't seen, there's a lot of flexibility in there too, each time he fights he may deploy an entirely different array making it hard to guess what jutsu he's going to use.
Deidara has stronger attacks to be sure, but the big moves are also limited use and he likely has less experience.

C4 prep or not is still more deadly the any one of Sasori's poisons. Though, it wouldn't work on him anyway I don't think. Does Sasori need to breath? And C0 would make it a tie, which Deidara could do if he got said scratch.
If Deidara uses his most powerful attack, it means he would most likely die anyway. But the attack will take out any enemy that can't use space ninjutsu. And Deidara's C3 could take out a good portion of a village so continual use of it would kill more quickly the Sasori's poison.
Deidara would just not get hit and fly out of range. He doesn't need that much time to nonchalantly drop a C3 bomb and wipe out Sasori and his puppets. A C2 Dragon would prove an effective way to keep Sasori busy.
Not that it matters. Deidara stated Sasori was probably stronger, so I'll take his word for it. Still has better feats in my opinion.

I don't think so, Sasori's 'heart' is pretty much a scroll-shaped thing that can go puppet to puppet.

Ah, but it does have a vulnerability to being diffused by lightning, and in a direct fight he has to be able to get clear too, if someone can stick close to him they're relatively safe. Well, from the big ones at least.
Proper use of when to use which explosives really is an art 🙂 Gotta figure all those blast radiuses in one's head.

I don't think lightning could diffuse C0. Otherwise Sasuke might have done it. And yeah, Deidara probably sucks at short range, giving you the best chance if you get close. Then again, he was able to dodge Team Guy when he was armless, which was pretty funny actually.
Indeed. Also, Deidara was pretty young. Only 3-4 years older than Naruto and Sasuke. Some reason I find that impressive.

Anyone great at taijutsu would have defeated him.
That's not "awesome at taijutsu" that's just "great."
Someone like Gai, Rock Lee, Sasuke, Itachi, Kimimaro, Kakashi, Raikage...
All of those dudes would be so absurdly fast that Sasori wouldn't stand a chance.
If an really old lady and a slightly above average taijutsu specialist can defeat him, all of those other gents would make him look like a snail during winter.

Don't forget that against the iron sands, the only thing that kept them alive at one point was the sacrifice of the chakra-shield puppets, and then against the hundred puppets the fact Chiyo had 10 of her own (an S-class technique) helped a ton, 8-to-1 odds for them (in which neither avoid being cut), or 100:1 for a single combatant in their place.
Poison gas, large smushy objects that had to be knocked out of the way to get to him, countless tiny sharp iron sand points, there was a lot to evade and between the two of them their defense is honestly quite impressive, Sakura's better at dodging than taijutsu, and the lady may be old but puppetry hardly requires the muscle of youth.
Also, Sasuke, Raikage? Sword, armbands. All metal, directly controllable by Iron Sands.
I think you're underestimating how much of a threat he'd be to them. Mostly due to the Kage puppet, and the raise thin edge the poison puts them at.

Taijutsu is actually a poor option. If you're packing high class ninjutsu, it's preferable to use that against Sasori than getting close to the poisoned weapons. It just so happened that Sakura and Chiyo's best bet was taijutsu.
Gai could beat him but he might receive a scratch, making the victory hollow. Lee could not beat him. Sasuke and Itachi would beat him, though not due to superior taijutsu. They just pack hax genjutsu and ninjutsu. Kimimaro....Not sure. Poison gas could get him and Sasori need only wait until he dies anyway. Kakashi probably would not beat Sasori with just his taijutsu. He might not even win if he weren't willing to use Kamui. And Raikage could beat Sasori more than likely.
Raikage could beat Sasori because it's very likely his Raiton shield would simply not allow him to be pieced by any of his weapons, and he is more than fast enough to dodge any that would.
Lee would have died.
Also, ddm, you are not giving Chiyo near enough credit, even as old as she was, she was a very powerful ninja.
Gai could have beaten him, probably, yeah.
Kimimaro would be fubarred lol.
