If I were Danzo, I'd have used the eye on A and made him even more radical than he was. Since he was the 2nd choice, Mifune himself would naturally side with Danzo even more.

Comparing accomplishments, Danzo is woefully inferior.
It's the gap in-between how he acts around certain people and around others, with a fluid mindset and consistent motives. It's his ability to work with what he has got, and advance into threatening positions.
Orochimaru successfully manipulated the Sand at their weakest moment in order to help him attack Konoha. He then uses his sufficiently brainwashed servants into helping him test Sasuke. He betrayed Suna in order to get him in position to kill Sarutobi, which worked for the most part and only cause him a relatively minor set back.
Tobi walked into Konoha with nothing. He merely picked the opportune date to make his move, played on Minato by removing him from the picture long enough for him to take the Kyuubi. He then used it to wreck Konoha. Minato stopped him but it was clear that Tobi had several backup plans. And considering both Minato and Kushina were killed, along with several others, it's pretty safe to say that Tobi won.
Danzo?
Coerced a hero into killing all his family, manipulated and pushed his agenda through a war between different warring countries and amassed legitimate influence through shady means getting to build a great deal of influence despite his lack of overall power and brokeness.
Admittedly he's a total douche, but he comes out as more legit than Tobi when it comes to his "trying to do good" schtick. He was convincing and tragic in a sense, but at no point he stoped being a total bastard. I may add, I don't think he's that good of a planner either, but pulling so well through all his limitations and with so much ambition makes the character all that much charming. In the same way, I like Orochimaru because he fails, it gives him some depth.
Tobi was better when he was cracking jokes 😛

And yes, he did get Itachi to kill his family. He also failed to get him to kill Sasuke. The same Sasuke that would ultimately kill Danzo. 🙂

itachi was aware of what the uchiha clan was planning, and he was like-minded with danzou about what "should" be done, his only stipulation: leave sasuke alone or else.
i assume his plans for sasuke are to live to redeem himself and the name of the uchiha as well as reestablish the clan eventually with a clean slate, with itachi himself taking the true burden
Tobi legit ****ed Itachi's plans all to hell and back. He got Sasuke, who has more potential than Itachi. I'd say he "won" in this regard.
Orochimaru didn't though. I don't think Orochimaru really wanted to have anything to do with Itachi after his defeat. Which means he respects opponents stronger than him. vin

I started to search the Naruto thread for around the time that chapter was released but...no luck. There's just too many posters. I think I posted it a month or two (or three...or four) after that chapter was released which makes it harder to find and why I gave up looking for the post.
