Most people can play regularly and maintain their normal life obligations. The "crack" references in regards to MMO's don't apply to the majority of players. The fact that they require more total time inspires such stereotypes, but usually for gamers it's the just the difference between that and spending an equal amount of time on multiple games instead of just the one.
Anyway, look in the mirror and tell yourself you're sexy, because you probably are. Then smile and play some damn WoW.

And do you know how many people play WoW? You're still talking about a tiny minority of the gaming population. Don't assume that a stereotype holds true for everyone. The fact that the total number of "addicts" is higher doesn't mean the percentages are higher than a normal video game crowd.
I teach. I see kids get crap grades from video games all the time. It's not a WoW thing, and it's not even a video game thing. They'd find something else to fill that time with if video games weren't around. It's just a mentality, and an inability to prioritize properly.

Then you clearly didn't know how to balance gaming and life. It's good that you quit. But most don't have that problem. As for your guild anecdote, guilds exist for every style of gamer, so the fact that you got booted from one just means it was too hardcore a guild for your schedule. There are literally hundreds on any server dedicated to more casual gaming, as well as those dedicated to regular raiding. But if you're in one of the latter, you know what to expect.

and i know there's allot of buttheads on there that take the game to serious. yeah that one guild i was in took the game over board they wanted you to dedicate your life to wow. I'm actually glad they booted me to be honest. but i was just making a point that so many people on there take the game over board. on the alliance side its mostly children and teens. more adults on the horde side big time i noticed.
but technically no one ever quits wow they come back sooner or later. i quit last summer before lich king came out and someone talked me into coming back so i installed lich king. got 3 characters to 80 but i haven't played since feb. i want to go back and play i had so much fun all my best buddies on there that i still keep in touch with on messenger encourage me every day to go back but I'm trying to fight it. but i know if i buy some more time again I'm gonna get stuck on there again.
Originally posted by ArtificialGloryyeah for some reason leveling 60-70 was more fun than 70-80. hate to admit it but i think it took me longer when BC was out to level 60-70 then it did 70-80. probably cause i didnt have quest helper at that time and had to use wowhead on lots of quests.
I haven't played WoW hardcore since early TBC days.

For serious, they made StarCraft and Diablo, they are gods.
Originally posted by Bardock42well the gods dont make the game wow equall to all classes. most are to damn OP now and some arent. but then of course thats one of the points of making more than one character but thats how blizzard gets you. to make another character gotta level up again which costs more wow time. so yeah the gods know how to get your money alright

So we wiped about 6 times on 10M KT in Nax before giving up tonight. My guild is fluky like that. We one-shot most things (including KT) and occasionally just hit a brick wall. We're a melee-heavy bunch, though, so it makes that particular fight rough. Normally I have another badass Hunter helping me. Not so tonight. An off-spec'd Shadowpriest who couldn't top 2K on ranged with me. Blegh.
Cleared Maly and the first Ulduar boss this week though, so good times. And I can sniff 5K on Patchwerk, which will be quite a personal achievement for me when I get there, which should be next week.
