I thought the religious fanatics originally said it didn't matter how much money the movie made, but it was the "message" that was important. Now these same people are trying to use the amount of money the movie is making as a defense against criticism.
Anyways, as said before, it may very well beat out ROTK in america, but it will not as far as world wide revenue.
The Passion will beat rings! It has already broken many of the records previously held by rings!
As far as the money issue, the point is that the 'film and secuilar world" said that this kind of a movie wouldnt do good "numbers" and it shouldnt be made, and Mel proved them WRONG! The money is just a bonus and a reward for Mel having the backbone to go ahead and make this great movie! The message it is sending is the real issue and its a big one.
Force, speak for yourself... overall I wouldnt label this country "lazy"thats your opinion. The US is obiviously THE place to live, otherwise some other country would have all the immigrants we do.
finti,...you cant lump together all the countries in all of europe to compare to the US numbers, of course the more countries you add to your numbers you will finally beat out the US! Like I said your country wasnt even on the list, so you dont have too much room to talk.
I'm sorry, but it is near impossible for The Passion to beat Return of the King in world wide money made.
I just looked at the number, and ROTK is the second highest grossing film of all time world wide. It's made over 1,000,000,000 dollars. The Passion, thus far, has made just over 500,000,000 dollars. I really don't see any possibility for The Passion to make another half a billion dollars by the time it's theater run is over.
djee, omegaman, you change opinions rather quickly
BF is very right: peopel touting it as "important message inside", now all you can say is "look at how great it does!" so freaking what if it does good in the states? no one (besides you) cares!
and about america being THE place, please keep any patriotic comments that have nothing to do with a movie out of this 🙄
yup, to see what the fuss is about 🙄
if critics didn't say ANYTHING, it would have made a LOT less
up to now, it made $206,381,540 outside the us
here are other figures:
ROTK: $737,342,169
TPM: $493,400,000
Titanic: $1,244,246,000
AOTC: $338,800,000
Spiderman: $418,002,176
HP: $658,900,000
than we're not even talking about older movies ...
so, what records did it outside the US exactly set? not as "the most ever", nor "fastest to x dollars"
Lil - It's not very popular in the US anymore, not even in the Top 10 anymore.
Omegaman - http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/alltimegross?region=world-wide ROTK over a billion dollars. Teh Passion half a billion dollars.

Like I said your country wasnt even on the list, so you dont have too much room to talk.what list are we talking about now. If it is about POTC it aint all that hard to understand, it didnt do to well in Norway. So the amount of money it made in Norway was small
Actually they do lump all of Europe together when they talk about box office numbers, and that was the question at stake in the little discussion me and the force had. Then he moved onto other issues which I replyed too
The US is obiviously THE place to live, otherwise some other country would have all the immigrants we doit is all about distances, they choses to immigrate into countries they are able to reach
The numbers do mean something, it shows that movies of this nature are something the people want to see and they will make money!not everywhere
Where are you getting those numbers and are they JUST box office?
It beat rings for one - with a movie that opened on a Wed., first week numbers
It is also been reported that if it had not been for THE PASSION, the tickets sales for the whole industry would have be down from 2003!
It has set records in Australia, Egypt ,Italy where it beat out "rings", and also in Syria, and that is just so far!

i'm talking about lazy not exercising, and sueing mcdonalds for making them fat, kind of people.
We were talking about population of christians , and I dont care if "they' normally block all the countries together or not, the point is that is NOT a fair comparison to the US(all by itself) then!!
finti, give me a break! So the only reason we have so many people coming to the US, is how close we are to them?? Thats just stupid! Use whatever figures you want, we have the most number of immigrants coming in that all other countries.
What country is better overall than the US, then? Please inform me.
