My list:

1. Gift of Gab (Not to diminish his other stuff of course but Chemical Calisthenics puts him ahead of any MC I've heard. The only other person that could do something like CC would be Mike Patton.)
2. Eyedea (mostly cause "The Many Faces" is still my favorite hip hop album of all time.)
3. Illogic...(^already been said)
4. Buck 65 (Johnny Cash in hip hop form)
5. Mf Doom ( as hock said Mr. consistent)
6. El-P ( gets all the credit in the world for production, but is a very underrated MC)
7. Del The Funky Homosapien (my favorite voice in hip hop.)
8. Mos Def (best flow IMO)
9. Mr. Lif (^as said above)
10. Aesop Rock ( ^as said above, although he does get a little annoying at times.)

Here's my list:

1. Big Daddy Kane - When it comes down to it, he's probably my favorite ever. Tough call between he and Kool. I grew up a huge fan and remain so today.

2. Kool G Rap - Do I really have to explain this pick? and his best work is either Road to the Riches, Dead or Alive, or Live and Let Die.

3. Common Sense - He's put out three classic albums, and one of the greatest ever, period. I'd give anything to have Common back in resurrection form. ****in flawless. Unmatched since.

4. KRS-One - No explanation needed.

5. John Smith - High on my list is John Smith. Still very young, but he's on pace to go straight to # 1. He gets better with each release. It's scary to think of the catalogue he will have once he puts down the mic. He'll continue to go unnoticed because he's not american... but can't stay hidden for long.

6. Pharoahe Monch - back in 95 Pharoah would be # 1 with no doubt. He just hasn't put out much material since his first solo album. If he had at least another solo (or more material since then) I know he would be higher. He's still one of the best to ever pic up a mic.

7. MF Doom - People today tend to think Doom just came along in 2000, but he's been making classic albums since the golden age of hip-hop. He's always been the most underrated and wasn't until recently that he actually got some "fame". Well deserved by the way. How many have been as consistent as Doom?

8. Ghostface Killah - I put Ghostface just ahead of Gza as best Wu-tang MC. It's a toss up though. I just love Ghost's style. How many are as original as Ghost is? Ironman is a true classic.

9. J-Live - Ask kool, how can you not get hooked on this guy? MC, producer, DJ, School teacher. Not only can he do many things, but he's great at each. If he was in the NBA he would be a triple double every night.

10. Supastition - Closing out my list is (was) a surprise pick.... He's the best MC you've never heard. Well, I almost can't say that now. People are starting to know who Supa is and just how talented this MC truly is. It's hard to think about what he can accomplish in his rap career. He could be one of the greatest to ever spit on the mic... he truly can be. But will he? Only time will tell.

can yall post some atmpsohere tracks, i want some from You cant imagine album, or any of their album dosent really matter that much. but im really diggin them right now

1)Biggie Smalls - Songs like Warning, Dead Wrong and Gimme The Loot put him on the top of my list. His amazing storytelling and urban gritty sound scape will have you(and me) dumbfounded

2)MF Doom - This guy uses some of the most silliest lyrics on earth but still manages to make a great song. Some examples are Modern Day Mugging and Lickupon

3)Gangstarr - This dynamic duo has all the right stuff to make a great rap group. From jaw dropping beats to good urban lyrics. Just Get A Rep is a clear example

4)Nas - One of my favorite rappers ever. He uses urban lyrics mix with intellectual meaning to make a great song. Classics like Illmatic speak for themselves

5)Heavy D - Songs like Nuttin But Love put this Mount Vernon MC on my list. He's a great producer and lyricist

6)Common - At numba six Common still remains one of the best rappers alive. His songs could range from living in Chicago to being in a court room, which makes him so good. Some of my favorite songs from him are The Food and G.O.D.

7)Snoop Doggy Dog - Although his songs got worse he still is one of my favs for he was one of the people to bring the West Coast to the world. G-Funk classics like Gin N Juice and Gz And Hustlaz are still played regularly to this day

8)Mobb Deep - Like Gangstarr this is a great duo. Just listen to Shook Ones Part II and Give Up The Goods

9)Inspectah Deck - My favorite person from the Wu. Although he hasn't got enough exposure he still finds out to make his fans astonish. His verse from Triumph prove my point

10)Kanye West - This guy has alot of pontential. Songs like Roses and Jesus Walks are prime examples

1.MF Doom- Wacky lyrics with hot ass beats, very cartoonish but i love the guy, i got into him through you guys, and through him i got into Underground rap, i owe you guys and him.

2.Illogic- He has wonderful lyrics, its more poetry than actual rap but i love it, and his beats are mellow, just something you can sit and chill too. if im pissed, i can sit down turn him on and just...chill.

3.Blackalicious- 100% unique with great lyrics

4.Mos Def- when it comes to rock and rap he is the man, hands down.

5.Zion I- very modern music, with great and very original lyrics and modern beats, espcialy in their album Mind over Matter, classic!!

6.Bukue One- Really good lyricist, and his beats are awesome, and hes a grafitti artist, i think he just starting out, but i think hes gonna be good.

7.MF Grimm- he has been through alot and he still rhymes strong, i love his song Take em to war and Scars and Memories, i wanna listen to his album Downfal of the Iblyis

8.Run DMC- its close between Def and DMC as far as Rock Hop but i love DMC alot and they have great songs, like Rockbox and King of Rock, and when I turn them on, man i dont even know what to say, you can seriosuly can get pumped to their songs, and i love that. They have this adrenaline in their music and it's killer.

9.Lords of the Underground- From the 90s with killer jazz-based beats and an old school style, that if you heard for the first tim eyou could tell they were from the golden-age.

10.K-os- His lyrics are kinda of average but he constantaly lest everyone know the corruption in mainstream music, and i repect that alot. his album Exit was wonderul a great debut for him. Hes good really good, but honsetly he has got to stop making music videos.
