Public Enemy???

So.. If you all had to make a CD say to introduce someone to the hip hop scene, what songs would you put on it?

I'm making a couple of CD's for a mate see. Trying to show them how good hip hop can be and how it extends much further than just Tupac, Biggie, etc. I've put on quite a few songs from Zion I and Chino XL, some from The Roots too.

any songs by Binary Star, Masta Ace, I Self Devine, Aceyalone, Common, Zion I, Jurassic 5, Wu Tang Clan, NWA, Geto Boys, Company Flow, Cannibal Ox

just a small list of conscience mc's that are good for those getting into hip hop

I wouldn't say any songs by those guys, Co Flow in particular can be real inaccesible to indie hip-hop cherries.

Just make sure ''Slang Blade'' by Binary Star is on it though, I still play that song to anyone who says Biggie was the master of flow. Shuts em straight up.
Senim's the kid with the slang blade 😎

little off topic but...

http://gorillamask.net/cryfan.shtml

"its still real to me, damn it!"

heres a couple dope indie songs

mcenroe - disenfranchised
mr lif - phantom
louis logic - what you think, what i know
cyne - steady
atmosphere - sound is vibration

Deltron 3030 and Hieroglyphics - Third Eye Vision are easily accesible imo. The lyrical content on both isn't deep or esoteric and both of them have top notch production.

Whoa cool, lots of suggestions. Definaltey will take em on board. So far I've just got a few songs, nothing too hard core or owt. Just want something they can chill out to and think, 'whoa 50 cent isn't all that really.' 😂 That'll be the day 🙄

Anyway, haven't really decided yet but some of the songs I got are:

Seed 2.0 – The Roots
Love of My Life – The Roots
You Got Me – The Roots
Birds Eye View – Zion I
Next to You – Zion I
Mystic City – Killah Priest
My Hood – Killah Priest
You Never Know – Immortal Technique
Find a Way – A Tribe Called Quest
Exploitation Of Mistakes – DJ Muggs vs The GZA
Sorry – Chino XL
Up Above – Cyne

Great list and welcome to the thread. I would also suggest some Blackalicious, Brother Ali, Cunninlyguists, Blackstar and J-Live to. They're all pretty easy to understand (non abstract) and their production is top notch. Keep us posted as to whether you can convert them or not.

its cool

im just wondering why nas name didnt enter your mind since youre listing conscious mcs, and i think Nas one of the elite when rapping conscious shit

now if youre talking bout hiphop bangers
or braggadocious raps... then i guess nas wouldnt be priority

but concious rap? nas definitely one of the best at doing that shit... dont forget he one of the best to spit that street, storytelling, empowering shit
