The Eminem Show really sucked.

You love how Mannie Fresh talks about punching women? I question your mentality.

No, I don't like Kanye West. I don't dislike him, I don't like him either. I think he's hip hop's version of Coldplay, as I've said before. He's the safe bet for people who don't know any better and he's liked by lots of "critics" for that "official" stamp of approval.

He also happens to be one of the producers responsible for using that god awful chipmunk-esque sample.

Not so much the "punching women" part, but I love when he flowz about cars and living it up. Its good club music, and its great to street race to.

As for Kanye: I loved The College Dropout! Late Registration was a'ight, but not as good.

'Soul On Ice' alone in my opinion tops anything Dre and Eazy have done.

As much i enjoy listening to NWA, i don't think it's up there with 'Soul on Ice'. i don't even think it's right to even compare these two 😛

oh cmon man, you dont really believe that

chronic, straight outta compton, doggystyle, amw, death certificate, no one can do it better >>>> soul on ice

you aint feeling the doctor???

but if you talking bout str8 up spitting/rapping/flowing, currently... crooked i = ras, ice cube and snoop in their prime would murder ras on any track. and D.O.C. before the accident will murk ras kass on some hardcoe shit.

peace

if were going with regions, here's how i place em

east - nas

west - ice cube

midwest - common

south - scarface or andre 3000

My taste in rap is pretty biased, when it comes to regions. West coast is ALL I ever bump. It all boils down to being able to relate to the lyrics; hopping in lowriders, smoking weed, hot summers, and questionable deeds are all right up my alley. (when I say "alley" I mean that both figuretively AND literally)

East: The lyrics are deeper and more intellectual than the west coast MCs, and touch upon broader subjects. Thats all good, but not my style.

South: Nope! They just talk about Escalades and big booties.

Midwest: Nah! The lyrics are too soft and comical for me.

I think the reason rap is so popular in other countries, is not because they are able to relate so much, but because they think it just "sounds cool". Which is good, 'cause it helps to spread the word.

---------------------------------------------

Here's my top ten list:

1. Tupac (RIP)

2. Snoop

3. Ice Cube

4. Eazy E (RIP)

5. Mack 10

6. Dr. Dre

7. MC Ren

8. The D.O.C.

9. Brotha Lynch (RIP)

10. 2 Short

Hey Point, how you liking those Supastition albums?

supastition holds the south title for me, all those emcees got nothin on him. i dont look at it like that though, repping coasts and shit. i honestly couldnt care less where they were from, as long as im feelin their music.

hh wheres that one list for the hip hop albums that come out dis year

Totaly agree with you J, it might be different if i was from the US. But as it stands if i like the music they're getting my money.

I believe it.

All of Cube's first three albums I prefer to Soul On Ice, but lyrically that album kills all of the above, and I really hate to set stuff in stone usually, specially when it comes to music and what have you, but saying otherwise in this case is just...wrong. Ras may not have the glossy, catchy production Dre & Snoop got, but he's a poet. Seriously, all of those, even Cube, are pre-schoolers in comparison.

''Nature of the Threat'' man, you can't even say anyone on that entire coast could ever have the imagination and knowledge to pull off something as big as that song. I'm not black, nor am I a white hillbilly, but that spoke to me.

i dont really care much for where they're from like phat said, but to look at it from your point of view, i would have to go with the east coast rap.

Boston- Mr. Lif and Akrobatic
New York- way way too many to count

and to go out on a limb, Canadian hip-hop is some of the hottest shit in the world.

Top Ten (not in order)

Mos Def
Illogic
Mr. Lif
Cage
John Smith
Akrobatic
MF Doom
A Tribe Called Quest
Zion I
Vast Aire

Soul On Ice > all those you mentioned

simply because Ras is more diverse and has alot more to say. Not disregarding the albums you mentioned, those are all incredible and i still listen to them as much as possible, but SOI in my opinion is on a different level.

Crooked I is good too, but i'm not a fan. 'My Life' was good song.

and i disagree with ice cube and snoop in their prime can murder Ras. i don't think you have heard Soul On Ice...that shit is incredible. Easily one of the best lyrical albums...production could have been a bit better but it grew on me.

love this Ras verse

"I'm a shadow of my former self
So when the sun sets west,
I rock and slap box with hip-hop;
Cuz its much harder to get props than it is to fall off and flop
I payed dues til I paid do nots.
And will never will what you say affect the outcome --
See, momma always told me opinions are like assholes;
Cuz everyone has got one.
But you couldn't tell me shit if I stepped in it.
Once I enter psychosis, paranormal, focus I perplex niggas and niggettes,
I play this rap shit closer than gilettes against the neck and juglar vien
Blowing out my own ****ing brain without lead projectiles,
Bled when I project styles and meanwhile, existence is a life sentence
And since I'm broke I take the risk, forced to hustle
'Cuz raw power moves, require muscle knowing I'm going out trife
Already got one strike, two more and that's life without possibility of
paroll
Having to stroll in my shoes ain't easy
Lookin' forward to 3 hots from a cell block ****in' my fifi nigga feel me?
'Cuz if it ain't the cancer sticks I hit this hypertension's gonna kill me
And **** a platinum plaque, all I want is a niggas dap
And enough snaps to put clothes on my daughters back Steph.
See this without an optometrist I'm stuck in the middle of this ***** -
Like ya momma's gynacologist.
Make a radio hit - headz criticize it;
Underground classic - nobody buys it:
So, rap is ****ed
And everything blowing up sounds redundant
But money talks and bullshit does 9 flat in the hundred
And goddamn if I don't slam my wallets in danger
So I'm coming out like unborn baby's with hangers
And chronic stress is comtemplated so **** being high Ras Kass is elevated"

he looks like a chipmunk if you ask me

another West Coast mc that deserves to be mentioned:

Warcloud

Along with Bigz, Ice T is another East Coast god. He helped to propel raprock and made "pimp" a good word so now its on par with "playa".

Hard to believe the man is already 48!

Ice T is a west coast God. he's not east coast.
