That's more than a good start, you absolutely cannot go wrong with Cunninlynguists or Illogic. And I can remember back when you wouldn't listen to hip-hop, period.

If you haven't already, and if you're not already too swamped with recommendations, listen to The Cold Vein by Cannibal Ox. It may not effect everyone as much as it did me, but after almost three years of it being a fixture in my CD changer I've decided it's perfect in every fashion and indescribably incredible.

Def Jux > Rhymesayers

Individually, I Self Divine > everyone on Def Jux apart from El-P, for me. After that, Eydea & Abilities > all of the Jukie groups apart from Cannox. In fact Atmosphere > all of the Jukie groups apart from Cannox.

But then RJD2 and Blueprint cancel each other out in the production front, and The Cold Vein > Rhymesayers back catalogue.

**** it. They both do the business.

Actually I have been thinking of getting Cold Vein. I already have some songs by Cannibal Ox, but not the album.
I read somewhere recently a review of The Cold Vein and it was very positive indeed.

I'll definitively listen to it.

And yeah, I remember the days when I wouldnt hear about the genre of hip-hop, let alone listen to any artists.
This was mostly due to the fact that I am, as you know, into rock/hard core/new metal etc... and for the most parts all the bands/artists i liked had something relevant to say.

Most of the things I heard of hip-hop was mainstream artists rapping about shit noone can possibly relate to.
Like how the heck am i supposed to relate to bling bling in the club, giving blow jobs in the VIP areas and riding in a car with a pimp who has Grillz on his teeth...i mean seriously...

Fun songs are ok for clubs and such, in small doses, not not all the time...

i remember listening to Cold Vein for the first time. it really puzzled me at first. i didn't understand how people could listen to this...then i actually sat back and listened to the words and that changed everything...

beautiful album from start to finish.

i know what you mean, the first time i listened to it i thought the same thing. it wasnt for months that i gave it a second chance but im glad i did. it wouldnt be half as good without el-p though, he makes the album for me.

I found The Cold Vein to be pretty instant.

Not to say I can't get anything more out of it, but I clicked with it first time.

i disagree, the production is amazing, but its Vast and Vorduls lyrics that get to me.

im not taking away from either of them, they make the other half of reason why its such a great album. i just think if it had weak production, it wouldnt be regarded as such a classic album. i wouldnt still be listening to it, thats for sure.
