I made a mix CD recently. Sort of a "hip-hop 101" type mix. I'd suggest any of these tracks.

1)Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers (DJ Premier mix) - Crooklyn Dodgers
2)Listen up - Erule
3)Poppa Was A Playa - Nas
4)Rappers are in Danger - KRS-One
5)My Mind Playin' Tricks on Me - Geto Boys
6)Funky Technician - Lord Finesse
7)I got cha open (remix) - Black Moon
8)Redrum - Nine
9)Got The Flava - Showbiz & AG
10)Come Clean - Jeru The Damaja
11)For Pete's Sake - Pete Rock & CL Smooth
12)Book of Life - Common Sense
13)C'mon Wit Da Git Down - Artifacts
14)Time's Up - O.C.
15)Slow Down - Brand Nubian
16)Cold World - Gza
17)Stakes is High - De La Soul
18)Submental - Log Cabin
19)Fudge Pudge - Organized Konfusion

Lickupon - MF Doom

wassup guys

i dont think ill be going here anymore....

*hears cheers of triumph... AC i see you*

mostly because ive seen a very offensive shit posted on this site and i dont wana be associated wid this shit anymore... but there's also the fact that ive been quite slacking in my job for some time now and im going to attend classes this sem.

so i just wanna ask you something reall quick....

why the love for indies/underground so much????

i aint saying their bad or that's bad... but the way you been gassing them cats its like they aint got no flaws...

no beef, but everytime i see an underground act.... a good example is Cann Ox... all i can say is they aint nothin special! they flow offbeat, the rhyme scheme is off, they rap about 😐... i mean WHAS REALLY GOOD? there's a reason why theyre ass aint sellin

all i can see is a bunch of bootlegged nas, bootlegged prodigy, bootlegged jay, bootlegged big l, bootlegged masta ace, bootlegged pun... even a bootlegged eminem

okay now that i got that out the way

i have another question

for the longest time, im sure that Liquid Swords is the better solo wu LP.... but since ive been bumping OB4CL whole week i came to the conclusion that that joint definitely eats LS lunch money

the only thing that LS can hold over CL is that gza actually came up with a "solo" LP

what you think?

i dont wanna start no beef just explain shit to me

PEACE

that is all

I agree about OB4CL, though honestly it hardly even seems like a "solo" joint. LS is much more of a solo album than OB4CL, but Cuban Linx is better.

As for the underground thing, you just have to be able to appreciate alternative forms of art. You can't try to judge underground hip hop in the same traditional "multis/punchlines/flow" way, they are steppin outside the box when they make that music so you gotta step outside the box when you judge it. If the bar doesn't end on a snare, that doesn't mean the flow is random. There is a pattern to it, just takes a little more effort to recognize it and above all it takes MULTIPLE LISTENS to fully appreciate it most of the time. Sometimes i find it to be boring and mediocre just like you said, but sometimes i find it to be genius. Can Ox is nothin short of genius in my eyes. I do find most of the older hardcore fans can't get into this kind of shit though..

Afro as always put it far more eloquently than i can.
P, you're wasting your time trying to understand why certain people like certain anythings . Seriously man just except that it is what it is, look at all the different threads on this forum man. Obviously people are into different music, movies, sports, books etc. Some dudes think its kinky to get their nuts stomped on by a lady in high heels, the point is we are all different.
If you want to know why i personally enjoy the underground more the mainstream its for the originality. I have always enjoyed hip hop that is clever and makes me think, thats why back in the 80's/90's i was listening to Chuck and KRS instead of MC Hammer and Bobby Brown. Thats just me though, some may like the beats more, some may just like to be different, but whatever reason its a waste of time trying to understand it. Just except it and move on with your life.
Take care man.

Fukin A Kool. You said everything I was going to say. Almost word for word. You summed it all up and I think speak for all of us.

P check out that tracklisting I posted. You can't tell me that's "too underground" or that you don't know who they are. That's some real shit. If you don't know Crooklyn Dodgers you aint hip-hop period. What I'm trying to say is that I enjoy both. That under under shit, and I like some shit you'd enjoy the f*ck out of. Stop trying to label things homie. Enjoy it, or just move on. I listen to what I listen to because it sounds good to ME... Take care man and I really hope you come back. I really mean that because we need people in here who listen to all forms of hip-hop. not just that underground shit. Ya dig? You always welcome here homie.

One

and yes OB4CL > Liquad Swords just slightly.

I love underground, cuz its original, Nothing is CooL by Mcenroe and Birdapres is one of the most original albums i have ever heard. all through the album, they talk about how much money they dont have, sucky ass pop culture, and their album closing track "F*ck you 2k3" basically tells the whole world to screw themselves. Sure they dont come lyrically as hard as the old Nas, or the Late Big L but I've never heard subject matter like that before on an entire album, not saying that hasnt been done before.

Also you cant blame me man, i live in Atlanta which is like hip-hop hell. out of all places i think i get the real bad end of the mainstream genre because everybody in georgia all of sudden thinks they can rap, i mean is it me or has anyon else noticed that alot of mainstream acts have been coming out of Georgia lately? all i ever hear is club bangers and aspiring rappers talking about the same played out shit. Club bangers arent that bad, but im not in a club 24/7, i dont wanna hear about how much money you have or how you will put a gat in my mouth, or how fat that girl's ass is. I like music i can relate to, out of all of the rappers i listen to, i think i can relate to P&C the most, storytelling and stuff that goes on in their everyday life. I cant relate to gats and hoes, because i dont live a life of gats and hoes, im not a hustler, and im definitely not a thug. And if your gonna talk about that, at least come equiped with some hard hitting lyrics, and no stupid weak shit. so..... yeah thats my underground prefrence in a nutshell. ohh and dont leave man stick around, we need more heads in here. 😄

It's not really a fetish to me as it is a way of life.

My bad.

Hey Tengu, here's a really sick mcenroe and Birdapres track from back in the day. Peep it.

I'm sending it through a PM btw. Man I miss the days where I could just post a track for everybody to check out *sigh*

and I also sent that track to tha homie Kool. I know you'll dig it.

Hey Point this "very offensive shit" you speak of, did it take place in this thread or just here at KMC? Just curious.
