He was very socially concious and political in many songs, so by that definition he could be labeled nerd rap.
The label "nerd rap" has nothing to do with conscious rap or intelligent rap. People don't list Nas as nerd rap, they don't list Common as nerd rap, they don't list Mos Def as nerd rap.. they call certain underground rap "nerd rap."
And it's not all underground rap either, it's usually rappers with an excessive amount of syllables, a large vocabulary, and spacey or untraditional sounding production that get labeled nerd rap. Really it's just a deragatory term invented by mainstream and old school heads to combat the influx of elitist underground rap fans on hip hop message boards.
If you call it "underground hip hop" it sounds cool, rebellious, mysterious.. If you call it "nerd rap" then nobody will want to listen to it. Of course we all know these labels should be ignored and the music should speak for itself..

Originally posted by koolruningzheh, florida's great to visit, and great to live in if you're old, cuban or really rich. but for a young guy trying to start college, find a job, basically start his life.. florida's a *****. high cost of living, low wages. lots of traffic, high gas prices, yet no public transportation.
He's 15 months now, we have just diagnosed him with that because he doesnt seem to like sleeping much. Hopefully he'll take a leaf out of his older brothers book soon and sleep like he's been drugged.Florida doesnt sound that bad of a reality. 😄
but it's not all a regional thing, most of it's just life in general. i guess responsibility sucks no matter what the weather's like.
You're not Cuban? Man, i had this image of the young Tony Montana and everything. 😛
You hit the nail on the head there bro. Everywhere seems to be suffering nowadays. New Zealand used to be great in terms of cost of living but its gradually getting like the rest of the major countries. The traffic isnt that bad but i feel ya on the gas prices.
What are you studying man?
