Personally I like hip-hop ( wait wait I mean good hip hop) but alot of the genres fall into that money making stereotype. You got your emo bands, your hair bands, your slayer esq screeching bands. Even music that originally represented anarchy in the industry became their own cash cow stereotype ie .. your grunge bands. IF the music sells well, it will be watered down by dozens of imitations because of the record companies. Right now the subject of hip hop just happen to be hoes and money, funny how it originally had nothing to do with either. But hip hop is the same as any other genre, you got your gems, and then you have your sell outs and imitators which will always outnumber your gems.

^ Such a good song and album. Bought it on impulse, one of the best I've heard in a while

Whats everyone's thoughts on Blackout 2? Personally I'm disappointed, gonna give it a couple more listens though. Just doesnt do it for me, pretty forgettable.

@ huey and leon

where im from theres no rap is one thing and hip hop is another, rap is just another name to describe hip hop and vice versa. if you go back in this thread you'll find a lot of arguments on this topic.

it depends how old you are and where you're from, for a lot of people rap is just one part of hip hop culture. theres the rapper, the dj, the b-boy and the graffiti artist. for you maybe you think of gangsta rap and think thats different than say mos def or grandmaster flash but to me its all hip hop. what they're doing is rapping. 🙂

yes, but my point is that disjointed third rate poetry about often shallow subjects and deprecation doesnt qualify as MUSIC in my book. even a coal powered engine can have rhythm, doesnt make it musical. you have to force yourself to get used to rap and hip hop for a LONG time before your system can even start registering it as sumthing worth wasting your time over, and thats because your not remembering good music mostly.

oh you dont even like hip hop? why are you in this thread then bro?

bit silly to come and shit on a topic, no one wants to read that in here. 🙂

this thread is dedicated to talking about hip hop and sharing music.

some hiphop can be melodic. i dislike rap a LOT more than hip hop, hip hop can actually qualify as music many times, rnb even more.

No idea what Hip-Hop lionheart's been listening to.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can show me any decent alternative hip-hop; obviously I know all the famous ones such as A Tribe, Canibus, Cannibal Ox, etc., but I want more, and I can't say I'm particularly knowlegable about it compared to most in here.

CunninLynguists
Company Flow
MF Doom
Dr. Octagon
Latyrx

Just a few, there are tons more.

Cheers. I'll give a look up on youtube and that.

Out of curiosity what do you consider "good". I find it funny how everyone always stereotypes music they don't like but then they get angry when its applied to their music. You can generalize metal as nothin but a bunch of emos screaming into a mike about why everything sucks and how much drugs their taking. You could say rhythm and blues is done since theyve complained about everything. Country is nothing but a bunch of hillbillies with out of tune voices. You can generalize any genre.

Nothing really, it just usually leads to bullshit like " this is why I'm hot." But you can also bust out classics like C.R.E.A.M. Cash is iffy, it depends on who's spitting.
