The main house was soon engulfed wholly in flames, but Buddy couldn't have cared less.

"Why, Sarah? Why?" he sighed over her fallen body. Her eyes flickered open slightly and she gasped, tugging on the chain around her neck. The chain broke free, and the diamond slid over her finger, before her hand fell to her chest.

"Don't wait so long next time, Buddy..." she whispered through the tears.
"Don't run from love, find it, hold it... never... let... gggggghhhh..." her words trailed off with her last breath...

Catori looked up at Buddy. She kissed her friends cheek. "I..I need to take him back to his home tribe." she said lifting him onto Chapa before climbing on herself.

"WAIT!" Buddy cried, hoarsely, through tears, "Don't.. don't go..."

Catori looked at Buddy. She slid off Chapa. "I am sorry for your lost." she told him as she sat beside him. "She was beautiful."

Buddy released Sarah's bloodied hand, and looked instead at Catori. "She was such a nag... always wanted more... more than I could ever give..." he almost laughed, but only managed a weak gag.

"That's why I tried so hard, to win, to get rich, the gambling, the bounties... the danger..." he was speaking to Sarah, but looking at Catori, as if to make her understand something more about him than Sarah ever did, until it was too late.

"YOU are beautiful..." he turned her words back on the lovely lass, "Beautiful flower... you shouldn't be alone..." he paused, to collect his thoughts and words.

"...I mean, you shouldn't travel these dangerous lands alone..." he tried in vain to butch it up some, but failed. "I will go with you to your people, if they... if you... will accept me?"

"I would love it if you joined me, but I'm not promising a feast for your coming." Catori said. "We should bury your wife first."

Buddy nodded and began the somber task of charging Rutherford's servants with digging the graves for the many scoundrel corpses. He tucked the rings on chain in his vest and helped move the bodies from the main grounds, to a more appropriate place out back.

It would take the rest of the day to complete a proper burial for all the bodies, and Gavin the fair and helpful servant said a few pastoral and kind words for the fallen souls.

"Whatever you choose to do about what has happened here today," Buddy told Gavin, after the Rutherford servant spent such time and said such words over the grave of his employer and all those men, "I understand... and I forgive you..." Gavin nodded and bowed slightly, casting sheepish glances at the others in the 'raiding party', savages and the like before skittering nervously off the property.

Buddy said his piece over Sarah's grave, then cinched up his rag-tag holster and freshly oiled pistols, leaving his trusty deck of cards atop the dirt on her simple grave, weighting down the unsigned wedding license.

Buddy turned to Catori, still stroking the gold rings in his vest pocket, looked into her eyes, the sun setting behind them, silhouetting their forms against the mass burial grounds.

"Let's move out..." he sighed quietly, taking her hand in his.

((oops, duplicate posts... corrected 🙂 ) ))

Catori nodded as she followed Buddy. Her heart grieved over her friend. He was always there for.

The trip cross-country, into Comache lands, was surprisingly uneventful. Or, perhaps not so surprisingly so, considering all that had gone on those past few days, and all the guardian spirits now watching over the wayward travelers. Buddy was stoic and silent throughout the long trek, though Catori caught his grateful and loving gaze upon her more than once.

Buddy seemed pleased with his new mount, he chose it specifically for its place in Rutherford's stables. It was a deep grey, large horse, with a silver star between its eyes and silver streaks along its sides that shimmered in the night, like lightning flashing in a storm.

"This is Master's prize stallion, worth more than $1,000... " Gavin explained before he was released from service. "He was called Thunder..."

"Go easy, Twenty-One..." Buddy whispered to his new mount. "Comanche lands..."

Catori smiled. "He is a good horse." she said. Soon they come upon the village. Catori slid down and carried her friend.

Buddy smiled at Catori's attempt at kindness, given the struggle he felt he had forced upon her, by not realizing sooner the course of their travels, and everything which traveling that path would reveal.

he stayed back, tending the horses, and holding his ground as near the path from the Comanche village as he could be. He was out of place, these were not his people, and he only now started to realize how Catori must feel every time she ventures from this place to the White Man holdings...

...he frowned and brushed down the mounts, watching out for Catori as she ventured into her village.

A couple men ran up and took Catori's friend. Catori watched sadly. She smiled when her father walked up. He hugged Catori and spoke in their language. She responded. She motioned for Buddy to join her.

Buddy stowed the brush and glove in Twenty-One's saddle bag, and moved sheepishly into the village proper, approaching Catori and the other Indian man cautiously.

"Hello..." he spoke slowly, "...you must be... Catori's... 'Chosen One'.. fiancee... male companion... uhh.." was he rambling? he bowed, and half-ass saluted the man, so uncertain, and out of place... "I'm her Buddy... uhh you're buddy.. I'm her friend, the white man.. I... grrr..."

Luis and Nat followed close behind the other two horses. Luis watched Buddy follow Catori into her village and went after him. "What's the big idea, gringo? You stay here for very long, they'll find you, and kill you."

((dammit... You guys realize I have to read two pages every time I leave... And what's more is that major plot stuff goes on while I'm just at school 🙁 ))

((don't worry DR.. the Adventures of Buddy Reno will be winding down to a trickle starting tonight, and for the next week... and, I tried to drag out the WR ranch drama, but some people got restless being locked up!! 😄 (and all that after some others of us VOLUNTEERED to be locked up! jeesh!) 😛 ) any way, hope you at least like the way it flows, even if you missed out...)))

((yeah but I didn't get to shoot anybody! 🙁 I'm going to go in the corner and pout now, ok? 😛 ))

(( plenty of Comanches around right now, if Luis is feeling left out and itchy-trigger-fingery.... the only question now is, do ya feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk??)))

((I don't wanna shoot random people... I wanna be the big hero 🙁 😉 ))((and I asked your character a question...))

Buddy shrugged off the vaquero's question. "I'll be right back... stay cool... don't shoot anyone!!!" he smiled at some sort of inside joke, then moved to Catori and the other Indian man...

"Hello..." he spoke slowly, "...you must be... Catori's... 'Chosen One'.. fiancee... male companion... uhh.." was he rambling? he bowed, and half-ass saluted the man, so uncertain, and out of place... "I'm her Buddy... uhh your buddy.. I'm her friend, the white man.. I... grrr..."

...if ony he spoke the language...
