"They've got someone pinned down over there, so if we create some sort of distraction we 'll probably get some back-up," Matt said, looking around. A peculiar alertness came into his deadened brown eyes as he saw the worn sign of the General Store, "I've got a plan. Find the girl, and you can get her out when it starts."

"When what starts?" asked Buddy, reloading his pistol.

"You'll know," replied Matt, a shadow of a smile darting across his face. Then he was gone down out of the back of the alley. Jogging along the back of the buildings he pulled both his pistols and stowed his rifle in a barrel as he stopped in an opening opposite the general store. Creeping forward, waiting for the bandits to be mostly in the street, he cocked his pistols

Buddy made way down the alley, behind the buildings, toward the place where the bandits were gathering to hold their last stand. It was a small cabin at the edge of town.

He looked longingly across the street trying desperately to see into the dark cabin, then glanced anxiously down the street, toward the general store. Where was this grand distraction Matt promised?!

Buddy couldn't wait! He had to get closer, to see what it was the men were protecting in the cabin; if it was Catori they were holding, there would be Hell to pay!

Buddy made way from the alley, and ducked into the barn across the way from the cabin. He climbed the ladder into the loft and gathered a length of rope, forming a lasso with which he hooked a tall tree next to the cabin. He stood in the window, ducking to avoid being seen, and hoping Matt's distraction would come soon, or he would take matters into his own hands and go out in a blaze of glory...

Sprinting across the street Matt opened fire on the bandits, felling two as he reached the general store. Diving in through the swinging doors, he looked around wildly until he found the wholewheat flour barrel. Rolling the barrel through the door he pulled a bottle of whiskey off the shelf as well, ripping off part of his shirt and sticking it in the neck. Lighting the rag he threw the bottle at the barrel. Hiding behind the doorframe, the resulting explosion was enough to draw all the bandits away from their position as they rushed to the store.

Laughing Matt ran for the back entrance, somewhat surprised as a fist knocked him back through. He looked up from the floor to see the giant he had knocked out earlier, standing over him. He only hooped Buddy had time to rescue Catori.

Most every bandit did in deed leave the area around the small cabin, to investigate the explosion; most everyone except for the 2 rapists and Catori, that is!

"We got no time, sweetheart... so, your time is up too!" Jasper chuckled, swatting Catori across her cheek with the back of his hand, sending her sprawling to the bed as he stepped up. "This won't hurt a bit..." he promised, dropping his drawers once more and leaning up over her.

The crisp report of a gunshot thundered through the cabin as the bandit rapist flopped lustfully on top of Catori, where he lay still, and did not move. Catori shoved at his shoulders, pushing him off of her, noticing his chest and shirt were drenched in blood! The rapist was killed!

"What the Hell?!" Jasper cried, stepping to the door and peering outside, his pistols drawn and raised. Before he knew what hit him, the rapist was slammed back into the cabin, all of Buddy's full weight swung down on the rope, from the barn loft and across the open yard out front of the cabin, crashing into the open doorway and flooring Jasper the rapist bandit. -oof!-

Buddy drew his own pistol and stepped over Jasper's fallen form on the floor, firing repeatedly until all 8 chambers were emptied into the would-be rapist. Jasper was dead too!

Then Buddy moved swiftly to his woman, Beautiful Flower Catori, and gazed down on her, in awe, amazed that he had found her again, alive and well! He scooped her into his arms, and kissed her lips long and deep, again and again, lifting her from the bed and walking to the cabin door, peeking out cautiously before making a break for the woods, where he could circle around the outskirts of the ghost town, and get back to his horse across the street from the general store...

Catori smiled broadly. Tears flowed freely downher cheeks. She hugged Buddy tighter. If she were dreaming she never wanted to wake up. Nothing could ruin the moment. She was with her love both alive and healthy. "Buddy?" she said not believing this.

Her mind was playing tricks on her. It had to be but her senses were telling her different. His muscular arms held her safely to him as he led her to what safety there could be. Slooked up into his eyes. Her vision slightly blurred by her tears. Reaching up she caressed his cheek. The feeling of stubble tickled her palm and made her giggle slightly.

"My buddy." she whispered. She didn't dare close her eyes. He would certainly be gone and she could not bare that. Not again. Back in the spirit world she felt loneliness and despair, but now she was happy and carefree. Now she was with her Buddy. Her love. Her betrothed.

(Sorry so short 😮 )

Matt, blinking, opened his eyes. he saw only white.
[I]Funny, didn't think I'd get here,[I] he thought, before completely rethinking his situation as he heard a vioce speak.
"He's awake. Get him up here." Matt was pulled roughly from the rough cot he was lying on, out from under the protection of the white canvas top of the wagon. A hand gripped his arm, whch was tied to the other, forcing him to sit up and as he adjusted to the harsh glare of the sun he found himself facing Black Bart. A weatherworn, scarred face, dark with tanning from the sun, Black Bart was a menacing sight. Luckily, Matt wasn't scared by much. Taking stock of his surroundings he noticed other wagons moving away from his, heading ou of the town, followed by men on horses. Then Bart spoke, his voice smooth and confident,
"Sorry about the quarters, stranger, but as you can see we're about to move. Now you need to tell me why you're here."

Matt's face was impassive as he stared at the bandit leader, but his mind was racing. Was he on his own? Had Buddy abandoned him? WHad he gone to get reinforcements? How would he get out?

"So it's like that, is it?" Bart continued, "Well, you're going to die. It's up to you how fast, and how painfully. Think on it, friend." The last word was dripping with sarcasm as the man, who matt realised to be Boffin, hauled him back inside the wagon and it began to move. He lay still, listening for any sounds of a rescue, ready to act.

BUMP!

Rick, after all that talk of not letting it die!

The wagon was rumbling down the road as Buddy reached his horse in the alley, and helped Catori into the saddle before climbing up behind her and holding her snug.

"No... it ends here, in Old Hopeless... no way I let you Scorpions live another day after this..." Buddy hissed.

He took up his rifle from the saddle bag, and spurred his horse into motion, trailing the wagon. The first obvious target was as big as a house, blocking the entry flap into the covered wagon, and Buddy slowed to a trot and raised the rifle, firing the single shot. Buckshot Buddy Reno's skill with a rifle was still certain, his aim was true, and Boffin's brains were exposed, the back half of his head exploded.

No time to reload the rifle though, Buddy spurred the horse once more, and charged up closer to the fleeing wagon, shoving the rifle back into the bag, and drawing his pistol, freshly loaded with 8 more bullets.

Buddy didn't know if he would have any help taking down these last few straggling Scorpion bandits, and he wasn't even sure he would need help... all he was certain of was that they would all be dead before this day was out.

Then, it would be time for Cavendish to join his men...

At the sound Matt sat up, looking at the body of Boffin tumbling off the wagon. Quickly he looked outside, seeing several horsemen peel off the guard of the other three wagons and head back toward him. Beside him he realised the driver was about to yell and quickly pulled his hands around his neck, using the rope they were tied with to throttle the man. Climbing through the partition Matt took up the reins with his tied hands, steering the wagon as best he could.

As the bandits approached Matt stood up on the seat he was driving from. Hoping his plan would work he leapt at the nearest bandit, landing on his horse, and just managing to hold on. Grabbing the man around the neck as he had done before, Matt began to pull. Unfortunately, this one gave a bit more of a struggle. The horse began to prance under all the movement, and both Matt and his victim fell to the ground. The bandits were on confusion, but things were not looking good. With a last tug, Matt killed his man, pulling the gun from the dead man's holster.

Still, three on one are never good odds.
"Shit," breathed Matt.

Buddy rode on, using the wagon as cover, as the horse-bound bandits split from their posts in positions around the wagons in order to deal with Matt.

Matt was trailing the wagons now, the bandits circling around to get the drop, while the wagons thundered on down the rugged trail. Buddy didn't have time to wheel his ride around and confront the bandits that way, so, instead, he spurred forward, and did the only thing he could think of...

he fired 4 shots into 1 of the two horses pulling the wagon!!

The horse crashed to the ground, the second horse tearing free from the harness as the wagon ground out and wrecked in the middle of the road, over and around the dead horse.

"Can't beat a dead horse..." was Buddy's logic, and as Matt and the bandits in the rea approached, Buddy shot around the wreck in the road, and pulled to a stop on the far side, taking time then to recover and reload his rifle.

It was only a matter of moments before Matt thundered up, and LEAPED OVER the wrecked wagon and dead horse, and another moment later 1 of 3 bandits followed, while the other two bandit horses circled around, giving Buddy at least one easy target.

-BLAM!- the leaper was felled, while the two flankers flanked Buddy and Matt. One down... 2 to go...

but who knew what more awaited from the other wagons?

this was NOT good!!

Matt pulled himself onto a horse, and started firing. He unloaded the dead man's sixshooter into a single man, turning to face another. The last one he threw his gun at, which hit him quite satifyingly in the head. Spurring his horse at the surviving bandit Mat rode right into him, and all four(horses included) fell to the ground. on the floor a fistfight erupted as Matt and the bandit struggled for life. But what was that?

Horsebeats were coming from the other wagon, but Matt couldn't see who was coming. Was it Black Bart?

((OOps misread the part where Matt fell from the horse before he could leap over the wrecked wagon! Oh well... ))

Buddy retreated to his horse, and helped Catori dismount quickly, so together they could take cover behind the wrecked wagon. The situation was very dire indeed; the bandits did still out-number and outgun Buddy and his deputies, and the bad guys didn't have anything left to lose, while Buddy had only just rediscovered his lost love, his Beautiful Flower...

Buddy took up a defensive position behind the wreck, aiming the rifle at the approaching wagons and horses, though he had fired the last round of buckshot he had. If it came down to trading any more lead, Buddy was all but certain this would be his last stand...

Quickly scavenging fom the bodies Matt pulled three more pistols and a box of bullets.
"I don't think we'll need these though" he muttered, throwing away the bullets, "No time to reload."
He crawled over to where Buddy was lying, handing him a pistol.
"I think this is it, friend. I need to kill the leader, though, so leave him to me." Looking over the wagon he commented, "Are you ready to die?" before the bandits were upon them. Squeezing off a single shot Matt managed to kill one, leaving several others.

(( I'm stumped, at a loss, don't have a clue what to do to get around this one... wish XornonJay or the other deputies were still posting...))

((Yeah. I'm going away fo a couple of weeks, and I don't know if I'll have net access where I am. But if I do I'll be sure to look this up and post. Maybe Tela could help us...))

~K, can someone just sum up wht's happening. Then I'll somehow survive and post again~

((Spike, we're (Matt and Buddy at least) trying to save Catori, and don't really know Leo is alive, so now its time for Leo to save Matt and Buddy before they're dead too!))

~Yay, Spike to the rescue. I'll post my reply later, I've just got some stuff to do first~

((Trickster from New Zealand here... Was gunna reply, just letting you know if I get as bored as I am now, I'll still be posting!))

((Woot, this is exciting. Sorry its been a while, i've been on vacation. Here comes Super Greg, except, not quite super, yet))

Greg, who had been sniping from the roof tops scaned the streets and found Buddy, Matt and Catori behind their wagon. He smiled and cocked his rifle. He fired at the quickly advancing bandits and killed the first few in the front. When the others saw their ranks dropping, and realized it wasn't Buddy or anyone behind the wagon, they began to slow, and scatter, trying to get away from the mysterious shooter. Greg fireg a quick shot into the dirt beside Buddy, getting his attention from a ways down the street. He gave a quick ride, and then continued to pick of bandits.

((ok, quick question. Is this the same group that had Catori that i made up? And if so, have you killed the characters that i made up yet??))
