Official Inter-House Challenge Thread

Started by RebelPhoenix79 pages

Who take time? It's been over a week since the deadline, and no people who take longer don't necessarily do a better job. It's about being fair, period - not about *ahem* doing nothing and waiting for the last minute and then missing the deadline altogether and making excuses for it, if you know what I mean 😉

Hey Tassie, Rogue or Georgina - can I just ask what scoring system Hufflepuff used because I want to tell Eezy where the entries are and how to judge them.

Thanks 🙂

EDIT - ignore this, I just noticed Ravenclaw's post about it.

okay, RebelPhoe-good good. Glad to hear what's going on.

Good job Huffelpuffs for being the only one to submit their results.

Slytherins - it would be nice if you could give me a update on what's going on with you and the results. If you're in the middle of getting the scores, or haven't started. . . .I just want to hear what's going on so that we can have some communication going on here.

Elondar from Ravenclaw- I know she won't PM her results until Thursday cuz she have exams. Thank you for telling me this.
And RebelPhoe from Gryffindor told just told me what's going on wiht their results.

I'll have to talk privately with the Slytherin's. I don't know if thye are reorganizing, but I need to know whose going to judge this challenge.

you know something? i can't even tell what belongs to this challenge.... could you re-post it first? 😕

We have an interview with the one and only Rowena Ravenclaw. One of the founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

"Well Divina, I have to say that it feels wonderful. I have always dreamt of starting a school for witches and wizards. When we started Hogwarts, we hoped that it would be successful, and that it would unite the wizarding community. It is wonderful that young witches and wizards have the opportunity to learn together, and to actually gain qualifications."

“Yes indeed. I hear that each of the founders has their own house, and they personally select the students that they wish to admit? Is this true?”

“I suppose it is, Godric chooses the bravest students, Helga has the hard-workers, Salazar chooses only pure-bloods, and I admit those who are particularly clever.”

“Right. And can you tell me how you felt when you were starting the school. Any particular worries you had? Any difficulties that you had to overcome?”

“Well, I was a bit worried that the school wouldn’t be successful. I mean it was a huge responsibility, actually teaching magic to others. I suppose the whole time I was nervous and excited, but the others were great. Especially Helga. We became really close. Whenever I had a problem I knew that I could turn to her.
We were lucky I suppose, we didn’t really have any difficulties when we started. We had a great location, and we all got along well together, and agreed on the plans.”

“I notice you say that to begin with you didn’t have any problems”

“Well in the beginning we didn’t. It was later on that the arguments started. It was mainly between Salazar and the rest of us. He didn’t feel that we should let in those of muggle-parentage. He wanted to only admit pure-bloods.”

“You speak of him in the past tense. Does that mean it’s true that Salazar is no longer at the school?”

“I’m afraid so. As I have already said, he preferred to allow only pure-bloods to enter. He didn’t like the fact that we were letting in those with muggle-parentage. Things got worse and worse until he left. But like we pointed out to him. We have to accept those who are muggle-born. If not, the wizarding community will die out.”

“That is so true. So tell me, what about this secret chamber that Salazar claims to have made?”

“Well as to that, there is no evidence. The school has been well and truly searched and nothing has been found. Personally I think it was just Salazar wanting to get people worried.”

“Ok. Now we have some questions that were sent in by our listeners. Abner Combford wishes to know which subjects you would choose if you could have attended Hogwarts when you were young?”

“That’s a hard one, um, I suppose I would have taken Numerology, Divination and um, probably Care of Magical Creatures.”

“Really? Ok, Sandy Salaman wondered if you were an animagus, which animal would you change into, and why?”

“Oooh, that’s an easy one. It would most definitely have to be a Raven, because they are graceful, intelligent and extremely beautiful.”

“Right, and a final question. This one’s from Poppy Hartstring. She wanted to know what is your proudest moment?”

“My proudest moment? Well I have more than one. Is that ok? One was where I first managed to apparate. A second was when Hogwarts finally opened. And I think my proudest was when my daughter, Reyana, recently graduated from Hogwarts, and received 8 ‘outstanding’ at OWL level.”

“I’m sure they were all great moments. Pass on my congratulations to your daughter. Thank you for coming on to speak to us today, and I wish you and Hogwarts all the best. I hope that it continues to be the successful wizarding school that it is today.”
“For anyone who has just tuned in, you are listening to the Wireless Wizarding Network. We have just been speaking to Rowena Ravenclaw. One of the founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Tomorrow we will be speaking to Helga Hufflepuff, another of the founders. Up now, is the ‘Moonlight Werewolves’.”

*re-posts for the third time*

😉

If you have 20 posts/page,
Hufflepuff's entry is on page 19,
Gryffindor was posted on page 20 at the top, the corrected version is found on #21.
Slytherin is on 23 in the middle.

umm.. i dont get it does gryff have the results yet...? 😕

I'm confused 😖

If people would please STOP posting unnecessary comments in here, it would be MUCH easier

Can someone ((Rogue, Georgina, Exa, RPhoe, or anyone)) refresh me on what's the scoring system please?

And everyone else-- comments belong in the Sorting Hat Thread

This thread is for CHALLENGE SUGGESTIONS, CHALLENGE ENTRIES, CHALLENGE RESULTS, SCORING SYSTEMS, AND POINTS UPDATES

Read the rules on the first page...

And I'd prefer now if ONLY prefects posted in here-- unless it's like the case of Slytherins whose prefects arent around here much

🙂

ok is the same scoring system than the last time though it has some updates, it's in page 23, right after i post orli's story

About the scoring system..........
I think we should use a little more categories, not only creativity, organization/flow and preresiquites - maybe Creativity/Originality (7), Organization and Flow (4), Preresiquites (ie submitting in time, using house founder as main character etc) (2) and [interesting/suiting] portraying of the characters (2)? I think this last point shouldn't be neglected - Gryffindor for example imo did it excellently.
Grammar should be included in "organization" as well as the style and the flow of the story - the whole "outer appearance" of the story.

We could also double the points for each category because it was suggested that the first entry should get +5 points - which is quite a lot (btw, are these 5 points for the house or for the scoring??), imo a little too much as nearly all the entries were posted at the same time, only some minutes or hours between which isn't a lot as we had two long weeks for the submitting.

^^ That's the scoring system Tassie. And yeah, I agree that we should keep the useless posts in this thread to a minimum.

Thanks *G*, I'll just sort it out..

Scoring Scheme for 3rd Challenge- Fanfic Story, proposed by the Ravenclaw House

Creativity/Originality-7
Organization and Flow- 4
Preresiquites(ie submitting in time, using house founder as main character etc)-3
portraying of the characters-3
Grammar and writing style- 3

It all adds up to 20^^ We can multiply the total by 2

Also, for the first house to submit an entry-- it's apparently always been 2 points, so we'll award them 2 points for this challenge, as well

But I think from now on it should be 5 points awarded to that house which is the first to submit their entry

I think we can use that... or are there any objections? 😄

No objection sweet lady... only one suggestion:

- How about a drink at the Hogwarts Cafe?????

* The Babe of Azkaban*

I have already posted the scores to Tassie and RoguePw.

Thank Arroch for posting where everyone entry is. That should make things a lot easier.

And thanks Elondra for Ravenclaw's scores. Now all we're waiting for is Gryffindor and Slytherin's scores.

An tassie, I understand what you mean about the pointelss comments in this thread, but I don't know about limiting only Prefects to posting in here. If anyone has a question abou the challenge or anything, feel free to post in here. But I think tassie's talking about he casual conversation, right??

i agree... mayb u should say that who posts pointless omments in this thread they will take some points from their house

Hufflepuff's Entry

August 24th

Our plans for Hogwarts are all going about wonderfully! Everything is going just how we planned! The only fault, I feel, is that Rowena, Godric and Salazar each demand that the students accepted into their houses have the qualities they request. Rowena wants those who are smart and hard working, while Godric wants those who are brave and daring. Salazar wants only purebloods and will take no muggle-borns at all. I now feel it is my job to take those that the other houses refuse. All those talented witches and wizards will not go to waste! I will accept them into my house and teach them as well as treat them all the same. They will learn that only together will we all achieve our goals.

November 12th

Everything has worked out absolutely fine until now. Salazar and Godric have had a fight! Neither I nor Rowena know what this fight is about. It does seem to be quite serious but nothing that time cannot fix. Rowena and I are trying our best to keep out of their way for now so that they can realise their faults on their own. I just wish they would hurry up…

November 20th

I fear my prediction was wrong. At least for now it is. At the moment, they will not even greet each other let alone discuss their situation in a civil manner. Salazar has even threatened to leave us. That is something I most definitely won’t let happen! I must try and talk some sense into the both of them! I just hope with all my might that they see sense before something rash happens!

November 28th

Something very odd happened today. One of our students...one of Godric's students to be exact, died. She was found stone cold in one of the deserted classrooms by a student in Rowena's house. I cannot imagine who or what caused this. The student informed Rowena and we were all called to a meeting. On seeing the body I broke down in tears and kneeled down next to her. I could see that everyone was disturbed and upset...everyone except Salazar. He seemed absolutely calm...as if nothing was wrong. I even saw the corners of his mouth twist into a smile for a second. Maybe...just maybe this was Salazar's doing. No! I must not think that way...Salazar would never do that to an innocent child! I am just jumping to conclusions. It is not fair to judge Salazar like that. No one could be as cruel to do such a thing...

November 30th

I woke up this morning to find a letter in the staff room. There was nothing written on the envelope so I decided to open it. Inside was a letter from Salazar informing us he has left and will not be coming back. He has taken every belonging of his with him and has left nothing except one thing, which will remain in the school forever, waiting for his true heir to open it. It is a chamber hidden within the school walls. He did not state where this chamber is located. He said that a monster lives within the chamber, only to be allowed out when his heir opens the chamber.

I fear for the safety of the children. A monster? Surely he is just trying to scare us! Salazar would never put the children of Hogwarts in danger…would he? But mostly I fear for Hogwarts…can we still keep the doors open without Salazar? I just hope…all I can do is hope…

Creativity/Originality-
Written as diary, this story is very creative and the action can be retraced due to exactness.
Even sensible dates, though imagined, are included. ---6 of 7---
Organization and Flow-
The story is organized and quite clear, the flow is acceptable. Slang has been avoided. ---3 of 4---
Preresiquites(ie submitting in time, using house founder as main character etc)-
Written from Helga Hufflepuffs point of view, earliest submission lets the story have ---3 of 3--- points here.
portraying of the characters-
The first passage contains most of the information that is known from Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Gryffindor.
Characters have been portrayed striking. ---3 of 3---
Grammar and writing style-
Grammar is well and considered, wording is acceptable, slang has - as aforesaid - been avoided. Length is quite good. ---2 of 3---.

Creativity/Originality-
Creative idea in writing an interview gives good preconditions.
It has been realized and the huge Text is throughout the challenge unique because of the idea. ---7 of 7---
Organization and Flow-
The story flows good when reading. But after reading through i noticed slang (which may be intention, but I am sure Rowena Ravenclaw hasn't talked much slang.). Actually, I also think Rowena in fact was an animagus. ---3 of 4---
Preresiquites(ie submitting in time, using house founder as main character etc)-
After all, the second submitter, and the longest text. Another, extern character has been put in creatively. ---3 of 3---
portraying of the characters-
The other founders have practically been left out, and Helga Hufflepuff doesnt only accept hard-workers.
Rowena Ravenclaw has been described well though, which makes it ---2.5 of 3---
Grammar and writing style-
Writing style was sort of too modern which doesn't really fit to the founders (IMO). The grammar is good, but slang has been used, which makes it ---2 of 3---.
