Err...you're talking about Cyclops there. Wolverine never got trapped in any such avalanche. That was Scott that got trapped. He survived by eating bugs and pieces of his own uniform.

That was in the ultimate universe in the normal universe wolvie did get trapped under an avalanche and did have to eat bit's of his arm to stay alive. And also if Scott had never been found by the brotherhood then he would eventually died from the bacteria in the bugs. Wolverine didn't have to be rescured by anyone and could survive under an avalanche longer than Scott.
