Raevynn was now a good ways past the camp. She pulled herself onto a sturdy looking branch, then started to make her way up the tree. Once near the top she could see everything. She squinted as she noticed a large cloud of dust headed her way. The covenant. The Spartan reached over her shoulder and brought up her S2AM sniper rifle.
Mendez looks through the battle rifle's newly repaired scope. He sees nothing. He looks over to Cutter
"Cutter, why the hell do you think the covenant need this spot?"
"I don't know mendez, but keep sharp" Cutter replied, grim faced as ever when he is in battle mode.
Mendez checked his rilfes scope again about 5 minutes later, when he saw a glimmer from about 100 meters away.
"Cutter, Check over there, you see anything?" Mendez asked, cautious of what it could be.
"I don't know, probably just the AGH!" Cutters face blew away in a horrendous bath of plasma.
"SHIT!, Camo elites! Everyone, Through grenades!" Mendez threw 3 grenades as he said this, the dust kicked up by them screwed with their camo, disabling it.
"Open FIRE!" Mendez let three round burts go at multiple targets, elite after elite dieing. Multiple marines fell as the carbines and Plasma rifles cutting the marine defenders down.
"Tsukyo, get on that radio and call for help!" The sarge yelled
"Sarge, all sides of the base are in chaos, we weren't the only ones hit
"Mendez, Get over and check the other sides, if they aren't fighting, get some marines over here, they are trying to draw off troops from the east side! Tsukyo, tell East side to stay put! Call in an air strike, Omega 12, charlie 13!"
Raevynn clicked the saftey off on her rifle as she raised it to eyes level. A gold armored elite walked steadily towards the camp, barking orders at the aliens behind him. A black armored elite stood at his side, weilding a covenant beam rifle. If he spotted her she would be royaly screwed.
Raevynn pointed the barrel in his direction, waiting for the right moment. He was scanning the terrain ahead with his weapon, and slowly turned to her direction. Her finger pushed down the trigger and the rifle's butt kicked into her shoulder.
The gold elite roared in rage as his comrade's blood showered down on him and the others near. The once black ops elite fell to his knees, minus a head.
Tsukyo yelled into the radio "We need help on the south side, I repeat the South SIDE!" Across all bandwiths in the area, looking for help "I need an airstrike at these coordinates Omega 12, Charlie 13!"
"Roger that Tsuky!" A familiar female voice said over the radio. "Hey Tsuky, Is Mendez there?!"
"Yea, He'd love to talk to you, but he just capped three elites covering my ass!"
The Longsword squadron roared overhead as its dropped its load over the camoed elites, a thousand fires sprout up from the ground, cooking every elite in a Quarter-mile radius.
Raevynn heard the explosions not far off. She was realived, but The air team would be useless soon. Once the covenant were past her they would seek cover in the lightly forested area ahead. She hoped the marines were holding up alright as she intercepted their raido chatter. Raevynn started to aim for her next target: That gold elite. She squinted, tracking his movements and deciding when to take his life. She pulled the trigger as he stopped walking and turned to face the troops, but at the same time, three pelican drop ships roared over her head and towards the camp. The bullet cut through the aleins shoulder rather than his head. She cursed undertone as her shot missed. Damn pelicans... Atleast the evac was here. She was going to miss it, but hopefully those other soldiers would catch a ride.
Mendez looked overhead toward the noise of the pelicans. He and the rest of south defense ran toward the middle of the base, where they found half of north side and a third of west side. "Where is East side?" Mendez questioned
"Gone," Said a northsider, having just returned to the group.
"Shit" Cutter cursed, and watched as the Pelicans came closer. Then, a V Wing of Banshees cut through the clouds "DAMMIT!" A sargeant yelled, "Jackhammers, Front and center, I want those pelicans alive dammit!" 15 marines with the JackHammer RL knelt one one knee and fire, the tracers locking on, but just as the first rockets hit, 2 more groups of banshees broke through the clouds "Ready volley two, space your shots to take down more enemies, everyone else, FIRE AT WILL!"
Raevynn could hear the noise of the heavy guns back at the base. But she had to stay put. The welcome party was just getting started. Raevynn could now see more of the army that stretched across the horizon. hundreds of ghosts drove behind the first ranks of covenant, and behind those were the covenants wraiths. A deadly threat no doubt. The enemy stretched far past her range of vision, and that was a long ways off. Those pelicans needed to haul ass out of here.
She left her thoughts and pulled the trigger on her sniper rifle once more to finsih off the gold elite. His chest armor cracked and blood spurted from it as he fell face first. By now they had realized the threat of a sniper. She saw another gold elite barking orders to three crimson elites with beam rifles. They scanned the area franticly, trying to find her.
She was busy releasing the spent clip on her rifle, when the radio implanted in her skull started to buzz with static.
"Spatain 116, spartan 116, we need your immediate return to base, IMMEDIATE, If you don't get back, we are all dead!"
She sighed, replaced the clip with a fresh one and leapt from the tall tree, landing in a crouched position as she obsorbed the shock in her knees that would have severly injured anyone else her size. "Roger that." She answered on the same freq.
As she stood a sharp pain shot through her shoulder. She grabbed her shoulder and turned to see one of the snipers in the distance pointing and shouting in her direction. They had spotted her, and the shot had gone through her armor and grazed her skin.
In one swift movement she raised the gun and fired and an unthinkable speed. She didn't even wait to see if her shot had hit, but she heard an agonizing grown as turned and ran for the base.
"Mendez, get to east side, keep a look out for that Spartan!"
"Sir, Yes sir!"
Mendez ran until the remnants of east side were discovered. Charred bodies and broken weapons littered the ground, and huddling over one particular body was an elite, with its active camo shut off. Mendez brought the rifle up to bare and pulled the trigger, the three bullet implanting themselves into the back of the elites head, Mendez fired another spurt but it wasn't necessary.
