watchin the mariners O's game.. M's gettin runs but doesnt look like there gonna hold off the O's they are hitting the crap out of Villone and the ump is callin many strikes and the M's bullpen is not good all though niether is baltimore so it might just be a big run game...

JESUS as im typing this lopez hits a 3 run home run that gives them a 6 to 4 lead

in the top of the 3rd though ichiro and winn got base hits in the infield then boone bunts the first pitch no one was paying attention so everyone was safe and then edgar grounded into a double play for the second time.. both scored a run but also killed huge innings... still an amazing way to load the bases

M's dropped all 3 to the O's the Cubs have NOT lost with Nomar in the lineup 4-0 so far.. itll be them or the cards in the world series for the NL

This thread has been dead the last couple of days so Ill try to lighten it up.

Just wondering with Edgar Martinez retiring at the end of the season do you think he should be in the hall?

Im somewhat torn on this because Edgar has been a great hitter for many years but you do have to take in count that hes half a player with him being a DH.

i think he should..... even though he is a DH i still think he should... i mean wut if Barry Bonds was a DH... they would still put him in, i'm not comparing Bonds to Edgar but still.... Edger has been good enough to be in the hall

hes a career 300 hitter and has like 2300 hits the DH is a very important position in the AL I definantly think he deserves it.. ive seen him play prolly 20-30 times and think hes great

.316 BA
300+ home runs
1000 + rbis
id say the best DH in recent history..

it will be interesting to see a DH and then if a closer can get it... but Rivera or Gagne both will deserve a spot

Yeah it should be interesting when Edgar comes up for the HOF as it will be much talked about.

Well Eck got in as a great closer although he had success as a starter. Rivera a lock with being almost perfect 99% of the time in the playoffs, Gagne could be interesting, if he has another save streak and pitches like this for the next 5 to 7 years he should get in.

As the Giants are not going to make the playoffs, it should be interesting to see what Gagne does in the playoffs with some pressure put on him as I expect the Dodgers to get in.

with griffey being out for the season again... making it 4 years in a row with him playing less then 90 games.. should he retire?

I think he needs to be moved to left or right minimal maybe even try to pick up 1st or just go to the AL and be a DH otherwise he should just retire.. but I think he can make a good DH still because we saw this season he still has his swing

Yes, but we've seen him injure his hamstring running the bases too, so it doesn't really matter where you put him, there is still a high risk of him getting hurt. It just really sucks ass, he was the Michael Jordan of baseball in the 90's and he was on his way to becoming one of the greatest players ever. Now he's gonna end up like Jimmie Foxx, being amazing in his early part of his career, then slowing down and getting lost as just a very good player that had the chance to be one of the best.

yea his hamstring can still be injured but hes also been hurt a lot hitting the wall.. and hed do far less running just being a DH it could atleast extend his career some.. bottom line hes gonna be in the hall of fame and will always be remembered as a great player.. hes one of 3 players to hit 40 homeruns and win a golden glove in the same season he was on the all century team at the age of 29, the youngest player to hit 350, 400 and 450 home runs.. over 500 life time home runs.. he did more in his time in seattle then most could do in 2 full careers.. and being that ive seen him play prolly 50+ times i have the utmost respect for him only wish he could of stayed healthy because no one would be be talking about bonds race for aaron because griffey would of had it locked in.. its always a shame to see a great unable to play (reminds me of grant hill in the NBA a lot) but bottom line he is a garunteed hall of famer regardless how the rest of his career plays out

Welcome to KMC cal31.

I think DH is the only position Griffey can play now, at least he wont have to take dives and he will have a better chance of not being injured with only playing half of the game, but as you said he can still get injured running the bases but he still is very talented with the bat so I dont think he should retire yet.

Thanks

didnt even notice you were new.. we could always use more sports enthusiasts cause the thread dies out from time to time

Yeah, sports threads are usually the weakest on every site. Thist is probably one of the biggest one's I've seen though so hopefully it will keep going.

yea i think badsymbiote has gone into hiding shes so ashamed of the M's or something lol

They just won 2 out of 3 against the twins, my home town team, so it's something atleast.

Yeah cant really blame her. One nice thing about rooting for two teams is if one teams sucks, I can just forget about them and root for the other if their doing better.

but they got swept by the O's in games which they took early leads and had ichiro go 5 for 5 the 1st game.. all thought the O's won like 9 of the last 10 so they are on a role.. crazy good offesne when they get hot

yup, but horrible pitching.

the O's? they arnt that horrible.. they had a rough start but some of their young guys are getting it under control and ponson is finnaly throwing good.. not a playoff worthy staff but not a horrible one either
