Boo-ha
Has C. Tolkien ever had a job other than to do with JRR's work? Sure he has - you lot should do your homework before crying murder. Also, a very simple serach in the Web will take you to a BBC News article from a while back (statement from C.T.) which should set you straight about what C.T. said about the current movies. Earning money? Well, I guess there is some money if new LOTR fans buy the books as well - but judging by the level of this thread, I'm not convinced new fans are entirely literate.
You are entitled to your opinion: you want The Hobbit, for example. C.T. seems to have the opposite opinion and maintains that the works are not going to translate well into drama. Why should he compromise his view - you don't seem to be prepared to do that? What makes you think that your view on this is somehow more valid than his - or even that your understanding of LOTR and the lot is somehow more profound than his? Oh PLEASE!

Did you just insult me?
And why are you putting words into my mouth
I never said my view or understanding of lotr is somehow more profound than his 😑
Where on earth did you get that idea.
He should compromise his view because this could spread his fathers work further, many people have only read the books because of the film.
I only read them because i heard a film was being made 😑
And i dont think its your place to say we arent literate and to assume none of us have bought the books, that could be seen as arrogance.

Firstly, Hi.
I guess DS is right, you're trying to insult us?
Where the hell did you get the idea we want the Hobbit movie to be made?
Hey, we maybe didn't do our maths homework, but we know quite well about Chris Tolkien, having disagreed to the licenses for the movie until he got so much money that he must have had Dollar-signs in his eyes.
Everyone knows about him publishing all the works by his father and making the money with it right?
Also, we didn't say our understanding is more profound, we just say we don't like him for only publishing the stuff only for money.
I guess he'll also accept a hobbit movie once the fee's right.
eff off, ignorant girl

Movie rights for LotR were sold by JRRT himself, back in 1968. for whole £10,000 so that had apsolutly nothing to do with Christopher Tolkien...
Hey! I disagree in the idea of not making a Sillmarillon movie. I think it would be pretty nice. Of course there might be a narrator who talks all the time, so it would be for the real fans who read the book.
I think CT's pretty stupid not to let it, this and the hobbit, out in theater. I don't personally hate him (I don't know him well enough) but I still think it's a shame not to let those two movies out. Cmon Chris, be cool! 😕
I would like to see the hobbit i think, bilbo is great. I would, of course, want thorin to die 😆 which would be my favourite scene, but the spider and trolls in the hobbit talk, we have seen trolls -and- spiders in LotR, and none are as advanced as common speech.
So, some continuality issues there, but i woould enjoy it 🙂
Silmarillion? No way, good book, bad film. Thats all im saying
Cmon The Silmarillon would be a hell of a good movie. The trick is not to put all the events in only one movie
Did you think of the possibilities that they could make a movie for each stories inside the book? For example, they make one on Beren and Luthien, and they make another one on the fall of Gondolin... in the end they would all be united and make perfect sense.
Think about it! 😄
yeah, and the people paying for the film are going to have to sell their children and wives into slavery in erinau to be able to afford that.
The battles are epic, the characters are epic, you cant have big semi gods running around with giant dogs, and people turning into snakes and werewolves and not expect to pay through your nose.
Put it this way, my taxes better not go towards it 😛
