yea your right..i know nothing about guns....i was raised by a gun nut who made sure i knew who to handle a firearm when most kids were learning to tie there shoesbut what do i know....just cause you have a shitload of guns dont make you an expert on the subject
I think WuTa's comment was made because of the impressive list more than anything. I've shot 3 of the guns on that list, and a couple of other guns at ranges in my area. And That list even makes me want to make the comment.
Lock n Load!
Proper gun education is the answer, not eliminating guns all together. Stricter laws will do nothing of importance. Just like drugs, if someone wants something bad enough...they'll find a way to get it.
Typical British response I am sure......
Guns are only as safe as the nearest twitch of a trigger-finger !
If guns are not available to the public then we must trust the experts in the police and the armed services to use them to protect us.
If you DON'T trust your army and your police to protect you then all you are advocating is anarchy when the gunnies start walking the streets with loaded firearms.
We have a problem with illegal firearms in Britain, ( and it's getting worse as the Eastern-bloc mafia take over the drugs and the crime ), BUT... the worst atrocity that was committed in Britain was committed in my beautiful Scotland at Dunblane primary school when dozens of five-year-olds were massacred by a gunman who had built up a collection of LEGAL guns.
Guns are only as safe as the complicated humans that hold them in their hands.
As you can''t get rid of the people, get rid of all of the guns and you get rid of the problem.
I believe that the right to bear arms in America is just a habit that is hard to break...a bit like smoking: Once you are out of the habit you never miss it.
Sorry Linkalicious....but you are allowing the tail to wag the cat there instead of the other way round !
It was BECAUSE Hamilton had guns that this made it easy for him to go to that school and massacre those children.
If he had not been a gun-nut in the first place and he had not been comfortable with their use he might not have done what he did.
If guns are unavailable to the masses then murderers like James Hamilton would have to revert to knives or clubs etc' ! These are a lot easier to deal with than guns... especially automatic and semi-automatic weapons.
If the guns are removed then that twitching trigger-finger just becomes a silly handsign !
Papaumau>” Guns are only as safe as the nearest twitch of a trigger-finger !”
Exactly.
“As you can''t get rid of the people, get rid of all of the guns and you get rid of the problem.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Linkalicious> But if guns were HARDER to get, perhaps this tragedy could’ve been avoided. And shouldn’t we do what we can to AVOID those tragedies?
Getting illegal firearms may be easy where you live. But why do you think that’s the case? Because there are so many firearms around. Whatever people may think of Bowling for Columbine, the death-rate by gunfire numbers were not invented.
i heard about it a couple weeks ago in the news....a woman was opening her door when she was atacked by a mugger...the mugger had a gun and while they were wrestling on the ground the woman pulled a gun out of her purse and shot the mugger.....everything was legitate too...the police couldnt do jack shit to her cause not only was it self defense but she aslo had a permit for her gun

Exactly!
Here we have the basic problem with prohibition. And I mean prohibition of anything. Prohibiting something doesn't make less crime, it actaully creates more crime than before. By prohibiting the ownership of guns, you will create a black market. Gun prices will soar, guns will be smuggled into the country by the thousands (maybe millions) and a few people will become very wealthy selling illegal firearms. And the criminals will STILL be able to get their guns. The only problem will be that the "law abiding citizens" will be DISARMED! They will not have firearms to protect themselves and their property, and will be at the mercy of the criminal.
Nobody is ever taking my shotgun from me.

Hey papa,
Just want to start off by saying that I went to your site (in your sig) and I think you are serving your community with that. Good job.
Concerning this quote, though, here in America, I could walk up and down the sidewalks where I live carrying my loaded shotgun, and there is nothing that anyone could do about it. In fact, I doubt if many people would even think twice about it. Lots of people around here hunt, and gun ownership is a cherished right.
I'd even go so far as to say that there may be as many guns in this town as there are people. And frankly, there hasn't been anarchy here since the civil war.
A loaded pistol could sit on a table for 2 months without moving an inch and it would not hurt anyone. That same pistol only becomes dangerous when someone with bad intentions (or ignorance) picks it up, points it at someone, and pulls the trigger.

I wouldn't even call it a tragedy. I'd call it life.
you don't need gun control to prevent things like Columbine. What you need is responsible parents....
Where did those kids get their guns? Where were their parents? How did the kids get to school that day?
If mommy gave them a ride. Then who neglected to notice the shotguns and rifles they were armed with? And who the hell was their tailor...because trench coats are soooooo 1930s
