loved the games.... and I mean LOVED them! Totally got my interests back into the Playstation.
I did see a poster of Max Payne at my local cinema a couple of weeks ago, didnt have any information on it at all. Was cartoonish black and red with a figure of him on it...thats it, no text, release date or whether it was a movie, game, day care centre.
This movie pissed me the hell off. Max Payne was one of my favorite games, and nowhere in the plot is their anything supernatural(unless you want to count the insane madman screaming about tasting the flesh of angels 🙄 ) and the movie obsess' over the supernatural. the game is about a cop taking down the drug-slinging scumbags who killed his family, and he didn't stop shooting until he was done. not Valkyrie and some supernatural conflict. I couldn't sit through the whole thing...
Looks like Scott Miller, CEO of 3DRealms, the producer of the original Max Payne game is'nt also happy with it
Contains spoilers for those who have'nt seen it
"There are several fundamental story flaws... in the film that have me shaking my head in bewilderment,", he told Edge Online. Before reading on, be warned that the following part is full of spoilers.
"A big problem with the film is that we do not really know what is driving Max until we see the flashback scene showing him coming home and finding his family murdered", Scott Miller complained. "In the game, we put this scene right at the front of the story for a reason!"
"Saving this scene until mid-film is a narrative blunder, because the audience needs to empathize with Max in order to like him and understand what drives him."
Another problem with the movie is the drug distributor Jack Lupino, whom the movie has him "lamely killed by one of the film's non-action characters," instead of being offed by Max Payne himself.
"The entire time we're told that this drug makes 1-in-100 people super-human, yet Lupino doesn't demonstrate this in the least. It should have taken a hail storm of bullets to bring him down, plus it should have been Max that kills him."
rabidd, you have probably best described it mate. I aint seen the movie but saw the trailer for it for the first time last night. I saw Whalburg and i was like "this cant be Max Payne".
Sure to shit it was, the trailer didnt look like ANYTHING from the game and i frickin worshipped the games. Why couldnt they just turn the first game into a motion picture...
You know the whole Valkyr and russian mob thng?
Discos - Might be eating my words cause i aint seen the movie, YET!
Just saw it less than a minute ago.
It was alright, though I'm not familiar with the Max Payne franchise, so my opinion is unbiased. The movie is nothing special, and shouldn't be worth more than $1. I mean, you can watch it and enjoy it on a boring Sunday afternoon(like today), but don't waste too much time on it. It's bad, but not as bad as other current action stinkers. I'd give "Max Payne" 2.5 stars, or by Spill Crew ratings, a very low Rental.

You'd have to play the game, as many of these other reviewers have, to realise that the movie is crap.
Or you could go into the movie and expect...a movie? Not a full recreation of a game with every detail start to finish? This is their take on the game, and I felt it well done, not an amazing movie, but I liked it. I played the games, I just don't let things like that bother me. I would watch it again.
I had trouble making it through this movie and it was a huge let down, I lost all hope for it when I saw the stars were Mark Whalberg and Mila Kunis and it had a PG-13 rating. The movie also lacked any decent story but a couple of the shoot-outs were cool and the death angels looked awesome as well.

i would have to agree...i didnt like how the story was played out...it seemed like it was missing a few things...however the graphics, were pretty good...i like how the death angels were cool and creepy at the same time.
i guess i was just expecting way too much from it
