I can claim so, because he has survived far worse. Everything is speculation in comics...especially physical confrontations, unless things like "glancing blow" and "bloodlust" are used as a reference, you can never know how much force is actually being applied.

Exactly. A guy who is supposed to be far stronger than Galactus should be leveling planets with simple blasts. All he did was make a crater.

Suspension of disbelief is fine. After all, without it we wouldn't be entertained.
Logically, we know that Thanos can indeed die as shown in that scan.

death is not the ultimate in MU you know there are other things beyond it like oblivion and thats were Darkseid sends you when using the omega effect the term death means nothing in this battle darkseid just needs to hit him once and its over.

With the Gauntlet Thanos wins, fairly easily.
Without it, Darkseid being at full powerful absolutely curbstomps him.
The thread was taken from one extreme to the other, because apperently the thread creator didn't want to see Thanos getting stomped, so gave him a weapon to solve most any problem.
