He typically comes out by outsmarting his opponent and/or using a plot device. He isn't outsmarting Tony in any thing, nor is he outdoing him as far as plot devices go.Pretty much any thing Spider-Man excels in, Iron Man trumps him and then some.

Spider-Man is a better fighter. Much more resourceful. He has far superior agility. His reaction time is even faster than Tony's because of his Spider-Sense.
Spidey is very capable of wearing down Iron Man through hit-and-run tactics, using his environment, etc. His webbing, while not being able to truly subdue Tony, can DEFINITELY hold him for a few seconds, as it was even able to hold and enraged, enhanced Hulk for a few seconds. Those few seconds could prove valuable.
I can see this going 5/10.
What they major in makes no difference here. If you reall think Tony can;t hit Peter, you're seriously underestimating his speed. With the Extremis, Iron Man's speed most likely surpasses Spider-Man's
Even without that, though, Iron Man can just blast the ground Spidey's on and/or emit a sonic wave or some other wide-spread attack. Honestly, Spider-Man has no chance.
Okay here we go.
1 In civil war #3 Iron man is beating the hell out of Captain America, saying that his suit has all of the recording fights of captain america on it, so it knows captain america's moves before he does them. Extremis Iron Man proceeds to pummel the crap out of cap... a guy that held his own against spiderman.
2. I forget the issue but, in the issue where they are planning an ambush, Iron Man specifically asked Spiderman to come with him, and to stay near him at all times. Spiderman after a few panels, reasoned out why. That Iron Man had found out about spiderman's spider sense through the nanosuit. Spidey thought, wait, it this thing can receive.. why can't it send..
Ironman has gained enough knowledge about spiderman through all the recent weeks of him wearing the suit to determine that spiderman has a spider sense. Something Peter states he never told Ironman about, which means that suit is capable of reading spideys thoughts and abilities. Meaning even in a fair fight, Ironman can do to spidey what he did to cap. Let the suit go on autopilot and have it beat spidey.
Ironman 10/10.
You'd have to use an older version of Iron man for spidey to stand any kind of chance. Can I suggest the classic original grey armor?

true you have a very good point there spiderman would have to rely souly on his resourcefulness
remember, ironman beat on cap...
when spiderman fought cap, he stated that caps hits made him go numb... and that he couldn't wait for an opening in caps attack cause cap seemed to have only 1 long series of attacks.
Iron mans suit is at least a 60 tonner (I think its actually 90 now) he can hit mach 8.7 as stated by reed richards (possibly faster because it doesn't state tony was at full burn in that comic).
spidermans only hope is to clog up the foot gets and hand blasts with spiderwebbing... while ironman is in flight.
spiderman is so screwed. it isn't funny.
