vs threads will bring the worst out of everyone. and now we'll have a thread SW freaks, comic geeks an anime addicts duke it out in an endless debate of weather Goku beats Superman, or if Xavier can defeat Vader 😐 what is the point? what do people actually resolve?

UYnless you're either a facist nazi that wants to deny the freedoms of individual users, or some sort of masochist whos asking users to make vs threads all throughoiut the forums like they did before the VErsus forums were made I suggest you don't knock what other people like to do unless you'd like to present yourself as an ignorant biggot who thinks that they're better for having a different opinion ... like a nazi.
Originally posted by Lanaso the majority of people want people to post vs threads throught the rest of the site?
I'd say it's the opinion of the greater majority of the people on this site.
interesting you'd think that people would want to have a garbage can to throw things they don't like rather than wallowing in filth.
But hey, the versus threads are shitholes right? and without a place to put them they'll be spread throughout the rest of the site. Cause hey people do like to discuss these sort of things.
So which would you rather have?
This so called "filth" stored in one place, or this filth smeared throughout the site?
And wait why the hell are you a mod of a thing you think is shit anyway?
That's just not right.
Originally posted by jinzinI've nebver really seen as being very considerate of other people in the first place. So this is right up his alley to not consider how the people who participate in the forums feel.
i truly hope you're kidding... there a vast number of people in those forums who are far better in debates than a majority of people I see consistantly in the philosophy forums...
also I have to challenge that "majority opinion" thing on two levels:
1) I doubt the majority would think its shit. with a break up of possible opinions would be Apathetic, Posative and negative opinions I'd imagine the majority of people would be apathetic and not care. then there is the remaining pro and con...
2) even if it was the majority opinion of the site that wouldn't mean that is was for the best, as I said before with the "spreading of filth" as well as saying that its the majority opinion therefore its the correct one is an ad populem argument at best anyway.

dude I've been talking with her about this mess for the last couple of nights.. from what i gather she doesn't have the interest nor the patience for something like this.
I'm the mod of it because it's the subforum of the VG forum. The Vs forum usually causes more trouble in a day than is caused in the VG forum itself in a month. It does not help that people flat-out refuse to read the rules and bother to figure out what the word 'originate' means. It doesn't help that people argue with me over the rules constantly, saying that "so-and-so appeared in this many games!" And it does not help that for a very long time the VG Vs had no rules, and then extremely lenient ones, so that it became the dumping ground of the Vs forums.
And you know what, I've been fed up with the crap that goes on in there, and I tightened up the rules to make them nearly as strict as the other Vs rules. Deal with it. It happened because of abuse from the posters. You can blame no one but yourselves. And I really don't think I need to explain myself, to be perfectly honest.

It's not all fun and games... in fact I don't think that there is any fun to being a moderator. sure you have powers to do things, but there is a line from spiderman... with great power comes great responsability... elsewise the other cliche comes into effect power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutly.

sure once upon a time Vs threads may have been interesting but now they have pretty much become pointless and stupid.
Originally posted by BakaXeroBut you admit they have a purpose?
their purpose has pretty much gone sour.
Originally posted by BakaXeroWho cares? shit is shit right? Gussy it up all pretty but it's still shit, right?
One reason i say this is because out top thread only opens threads in one section and and it's a Vs. how many of those are actually good matches 😬
Originally posted by BakaXeroDoes it matter? you'd rather these low quality matches be intruding on other sections of the forum, rather than having a board for it that you need not even venture into?
how many quality matchups can you actually have?
Seriously think about what you're saying.
Embittered? I love the VG forum. The forums on here I mod I frequent the most. When I took over it, the first thing I did was enact a cleanup in the VG and VG Vs, and fixed up the rules a bit, flesh them out some. And it was fine -- hell, I got thanks for it. It's only in the past two months that it's exploded into me having to close 10 threads a day.
People need to learn to read rules. If they cannot bother to read them, then it is no one's problem but their own if their threads get closed and/or they get in trouble. Sorry but you know, I enforce my rules.
I used to actually like and have an interest in Vs matches. Waaaay back when the CB Vs forum started, I actually posted in there relatively often. But it so quickly plunged to a state of fanboyish "this character is better!" "no, and you're a retard for thinking so!" that I gave up on it altogether. And you know what, I try my damnedest to keep the VG Vs from those sorts of arguments. When people were going nuts with the spite threads, I recruited a handful of members who were fed up with them to help me by pointing out and reporting them so that I could take care of them. So it's not just me that was getting sick of the crap in there -- other posters were as well.
I say that the posters are to blame for the newly rewritten rules because if people could follow the ones that were set to begin with, I wouldn't have had to make them stricter. If I didn't get a whiny PM everytime I closed a thread that had no business being there saying "well that character was in a bunch of games!", if people thought that they could get away with having anime matches simply because of the Goku/Superman thread, and if people hadn't immediately started in on the bashing anytime someone had a differing opinion, then there'd be no need for the rules change.
No, I don't expect people to be smart. But I DO expect them to read the rules -- especially when I explain them very clearly, invite anyone with any questions to PM me, and also leave the rules thread open instead of locking it for any questions or suggestion. Most people like the new rules, or at the very least understand why it was put in place.
So I would suggest that before you make accusations, you know what you're talking about.
