OKay as for the possibility of a new forum...
all I have to say is this: there are a number.. a rather large number of people at that who want to discuss movie characters vs. anime, or anime vs. comics, or comics vs. video games etc etc... if there wasn't a large base of people who wanted to discuss such topics lana wouldn't have had to close down as many threads as she did the other day in the VG vs. forums alone.
I've said it before I'll say it again.. I'm EXTREMELY upset with the fact that she closed down the goku vs. supes thread. Yeah, we've had problems in it, and yeah perhaps it doesn't belong there due to her new inflicted rules.. but the fact is alot of us debated on that thread without hostilities.. there were a number of people who were doing a great job of having a good discussion in that thread and fighting seemed to have dropped dramatically.. hell people were even conceding to points and meeting middle grounds by the time the thread got closed.
the fact is we put a lot of time effort, reasearch and thought into that debate from both sides and if there were indiviuals who were causing hostilities then ramifications should be made for the individuals not the masses...
and lana.. you're wrong.. again... I wasn't complaining just about the rule change.. (hell I wasn't complaining at all.. i was having a discussion with you (or at least trying to) but you were getting touchy there just like you did here... ).. I was upset with the fact that NO ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION was given. I asked you several times for an alternative and several times you tengented to something else entirely.
Look, I'm all for a MIXED MEDIA VS. FORUM.. hell I'll help do whatever I can to try and keep that kind of forum up and running and in check if we're given one, just tell me what to do.
But this nonsense about space saving is riciulous.. Off Topic Forum... nuff said.. really...
See the key (I think) to making a forum like that work is to possibly include a section for RESPECT threads allowing new members access to vital character info when they might otherwise be ignorant.. I know the respect threads and the ins and outs threads in the comics vs. help people gain general understandings of characters a great deal... But more importantly.. I think the REAL KEY is for the mods to set a good example and store some responsibility on senior/respectable/helpful members to do the same and set examples for new comers.. hopefully causing a trickle down effect.
I realize this is getting a little heated but it must be said; in regards to lana and rex you both have failed to set good examples from my limited experience with you over the past two days... how can you possibly chastise and punish members for acting in the same fasion?

no. I fail to see where he directly insulted anyone... infact between him and rex (which was whom I was reffering to in the first place) it was rex who opened up with a "STFU" I don't know about you, but when someone says this to me I consider that insulting, it's extremely disrespectful at the least...
and no cresh isn't blindly refusing to listen, that's not how he operates. He's changed opinion multiple times when presented with good reasoning to do so that outweighs his own. So far no such reasoning as been offered...
as for taking a look for who's at fault... I know who's at fault, I've been reading this thread for the past several pages and comprehending the arguments presented unlike you apparently... cresh isn't doing this without proper cause his reasoning is apparent when he discussed how he felt that something was wrong with the logic that he was debating against.. and then he backed up why with rationale. The situation here is one that will have to be accepted- there is a considerable problem with the vs. areas on this site. Now, you can have your own opinions as to the cause of those problems but it is not acceptable to launch a full on assault on the mods in here; if you have a complaint, make it in private. It is not reasonable for mods to do the hard work they do just to be complained about in the suggestion area because they have made decisions not to your liking.
Rather than continue to moan about that, I suggest you try and look constructively at the situation. That now appears to be the likelihood of all vs. forums being merged into one area. And yes, it is possible that the alternative to that would have to be no vs. areas at all. That is not currently on the table but when you have a large problem, all options get considered.
If you don't want either of thse possibilities to happen, constructive comment and suggestion is going to help you a hundred times more than simple complaints.
Now, for may part, I back the actions taken by the mods in all the vs. areas. That's my opinion. But I am not going to get into an argument about it- this is not the place.
I think merging them has great merit in that it frees up possibilities. But I do worry about culture clash and the domination of one genre- i.e. comics.

let me just "suggest" this: leave the comics vs. forum AS IS. I mean that forum is it's own sub culture in these place and should be left alone as it's really come into it's own by now.
Instead of creating ONE GIGANTIC EVERYTHING vs. forum just allow for the comics vs. forum and have another forum altogether (perhaps a sub-forum) called MIXED MEDIA VS. FORUM, this would allow for battles to take place with characters of any media, the only exception would be comic vs. comic character which would be left in the comics vs. forum or moved there should such a topic be opened in the mixed media vs.
PLEASE consider this alternative.
And again, I'll offer whatever help i can give to make this thing happen, just let me know what I can do.

I reckon it would either have to be one big merge or just an addition. But as an addition it woukd look somewhat divorced from the communities who want it. Might get its own community of course. Well, we'll see.

for instance the characters bouts would be allowable for something like this:
comic book vs. video game (yes)
comic book vs. movie (yes)

anime vs. anime (yes)
comic book vs. comic book? (no) cause we'd already have a forum for strictly comic book vs. discussions; this is all assuming that the comic book forum was left alone.

I don't know.. I mean, I SINCERELY doubt that there's near as many mixed media-ish threads out there as opposed to the comic vs. ones... I would probably be a busy forum yes, (Hell, I would HOPE it to be a buisy forum after this mess) but I don't think it would be any worse than the comics vs. to be quite honest. I mean the comics vs. forum is like the what? 3rd busiest forum on these boards... and yet they manage. I think with the proper introduction and care it shouldn't be as difficult as you're making it out to be, granted though this is only theoretical and theory vs. practice are two entirely different things no doubt...

The Comic vs comic is 10x more active than the other ones so it would be ok anyway. If the comic vs comic was in the mix with the other combined ones then it would be super hard to mod, and mods will break their screen with their head because 90% of mods hate it.

the other areas don't have nearly the equivolent in sheer numbers nor activity that the comic community does on this forum, if they did I could understand a need/want to have their own vs. area, but the fact of the matter is that the numbers for mixed media are not frequent or consistant enough to even compare with the comic vs. forum. I do however feel that there is enough consistancy in numbers that to put them mixed with the comics vs forum would impare the already established community. And in the end that's what this really comes down to, the comics vs. is already established and as I said before has it's own little subculture within the forums, it's own ecosystem if you will. To throw in another kind of community into that ecosystem would definitely be the beginning on a road to some serious ramifications. The mixed media vs. forum would be more of a last resort effort to pull something constructive together from the aformentioned chaos. And lets face it, if the only other alternative meathods offered are merging ALL threads or making none, that's exactly what this is, a last resort.
I only ask that we at least give this a try, I would HOPE that people would be understanding enough not to wage holy war about getting their own specified forums but as cresh said we can't expect anyone to do anything but be people. I'd like to at least have the idea entertained and see what happens... if things got to bad they could always be closed down, but if you kill ideas before they're even put into mobilization then what's the use of this suggestion thread?
