Episode III official title- Revenge of the Sith

Well I think it's obvious. The Sith strike back in Episode 3, wiping out all of the Jedi and regaining control of the galaxy after they've been extinct for a Millennium.

Also, might I add that the Sith were exterminated "by the Jedi" a thousand years ago, now the Sith will wipe out all of the Jedi, so that is their revenge. 😉

OK, heres my two cents...

Lucas wanted to call Ep 6 Revenge of the Jedi, but since Jedi are above petty things like revenge he changed 'Revenge' to 'Return'. I think he's just using the title he wanted to use before, but it fits better now because Sith are all about revenge.

That sounds about right.

And I'm so damn stoked about the title. I guessed it in 02, 'been writing "revenge of the sith" ever since then.

Whinge, moan, whinge, moan... Let's face it, whatever George had called this film there would have been griping from some quarters.

And as for some of the alternative titles suggested by self-proclaimed SW 'experts' - 'Fall Of The Republic' - careful on the step there, Republic, it's wet... 'Birth Of The Empire' - keep pushin' Palpatine, we can see the head... 'The Creeping Fear' - Look, Darth's on tippy-toes!... 'Mask Of Evil' - jeez, no comment!!!!

Revenge Of The Sith works for me, and more importantly it works for a mass-market audience - the very word 'Revenge' alone conjures up thoughts of bitterness and evil, plus in its construction the title has a pleasing symmetry with ROTJ.

Even if you really, really, *really* hate the title (and god knows why you should, but anyway...), remember: it's only a name - it's really not worth getting that worked up about.

I think revenge of the siths is a fine title, the best of the prequels anyway
