Review: The Village

The Village SUCKED.
Man, I used to like M. Night Shyamalan's work...

This movie was a huge disapointment.

It was a good, spooky movie all the way until the end where they ruin it by having one of the dumbest movie endings ever made. It is cheap M. Night S. and he should be ashamed.

I found The Village to be one of the worst films I've ever seen. The production company should be sued for false advertising. While the trailers made this film seem like a scare fest it was everything but. The quirky twists were poorly timed and the final twist was easily guessable. After the first twist is revealed the viewer is left with the "who cares now" attitude. Too bad there are still about 30 minutes left of the film after this horrible first twist (which could have been saved until the ending).

For the most part, this is a boring snoozefest of a film. The worst of Night's collection yet...unless you're counting Stuart Little (funny how the Sci-fi channel left that out of the creepy and pathetic documentary they made to help promote this film).

Overall Rating: D-

A D-!!! A D-

How the hell could you give it a D-!!! It's the mpst-SUCKIEST MOVIE EVER. I give it an F- no a Z-... what the hell is a Z- anyways.

I saw that and I was highly dissapointed. It was nothing like what I thought

Wow looks like it got alot of bad reviews I havent seen it yet but the commercial looked good.

First and foremost let me make one thing clear about my review. Despite the mass amount of comments regarding the village as a work of horror I absolutely disagree. This is NOT a horror film. The village is nothing more than a drama movie with suspence. Even though the suspence was rather weak it doesn't merit the title of a horror film. Okay? Onto the review.

The Village opens with the funeral of a child that recently died. The causes are not told (or maybe I missed the part where they say the causes of dead.....anyways it doesn't matter.) Then after some short cuts the film addresses the mystery and terror of the village in a small school classroom. The educator is teaching the children about the local terror known as "Those We Don't Speak Of". Clearly this refers to a certain terror that haunts the local village.

After an unfortunate experience of short scenes and a non-interesting dialogue we finally get a taste of "Those We Don't Speak Of". And it seems these creatures aren't too happy about a certain villager named Lucius (who is a brave young man) that dare to cross the borderline between the Village and the forrest (were the "Those We Don't Speak Of" resides) So they leave marks on the front doors as signs of warnings to the villagers never to enter the forrest again.

Well, we get the idea that the villagers and "Those We Don't Speak Of" get along just fine as long as neither side enters their territory. And we get the impression this happen sometime in 1880. And we also get that this took place in America. But here is where Shyamalan makes his usual film twist

Spoiler:
This all takes place in modern day America in a remote secluded Animal reservation.
Pretty interesting huh?

So without going too far with this puppy. The film was original in it's idea of demostrating what an UTOPIAN society would look like! Yes! M. Night deliver a pretty good picture of a perfect society that lives and works the land without any need of Economic, Political, Religious and Scientific mumbo jumbo. The Village is indeed UTOPIA!

Forget the trailers, the posters, the bad reviews this film is more of a sociology project that delivers an excellent interesting view of our world.

I know some of you will strongly disagree with my rating for the film. But like I said this is NOT a horror film. WD awards The Village with a rating of:

4 out of 5

The Village is a comment on post-9/11 America, but that doesn't make it a good film...It's just boring and badly marketed.

Yup, you can make your own interpretations. Just like and the Utopia comment.

"I know some of you will strongly disagree with my rating for the film. But like I said this is NOT a horror film. WD awards The Village with a rating of:"

Problem is it was/is advertised as one, thus giving people a premature judgement on the film that it will be scary or thrilling when it is not.

Based on what happens in the film, this ^ conclusion is patently wrong! The film shows an attempt at creating a Utopia, not 'what an(sic) UTOPIAN society would look like'. This much is obvious as a result of the village being shown to be ultimately flawed. The politics of life within the village is demonstrated by the convening of the council of elders, the religious life is overtly Puritanical and the threat of the 'monsters' is an obvious linking of Church and State. As for utopia, if you know what the word means, you certainly would not proclaim "The Village is indeed UTOPIA!".

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but when the FACTS invalidate a conclusion, the reviewer gets a load grade.

**quickly say** I loved this movie ( i know I may be one of the few)

Your not I loved this movie too.Like Backfire said it was just badly marketed.

ooo so very sorry but if you had read backfires post he said more or less the same thing aswell.

Any way I feel no need to explain why 'I loved' this movie to you, as you all ready said you found it 'boring'. So whats the point you'll only find fault or criticize my explanation of liking it.I loved the movie because I just did so we'll leave it at that .

before you respond with some boring, useless drivel I'm going to suggest something...... Get over it!!!

i love Kill the light 🙂

That's all very nice and polite, but I simply thought maybe you saw something I didn't and I'm interested in knowing what that was...

How can I 'get over it' if I was never on it? What is 'it' anyway? Thanks in advance...
