the film is probably set maybe ten or twenty years in the future, and that Shyamalan uses the newspaper the security guard holds near the end as an illustration of how much crime and violence had escalated in that time. The film is actually a prophesy of the way mankind is heading over the next few years, and of the consequences for the victims

I agree completely - this was pretty much my take on the why and wherefore of when it was set and why they chose to run the village the way they did.

All the same its a pretty cynical view to have, and to be honest i dont believe the movie was as strong as his others, not bad, just missing that certain something.

Spoiler:
1st of all I went to see it because I wanted too and secondly I had to see if all of this hate was nessessary. But I was extremely suprised at the twist ending. There was twist all throughout the movie but the ending was very suprising. I'm not saying that the last twist was any good but it was somewhat half decent.

Anyways the whole plot of this movie is a village with only like 60 people. Everyone in the village were illusioned to think that there was some kind of creatures out of the boarders of the village. But the plot starts when well...Joaquin Pheonix's character, Lucious proposed to a blind girl named Ivy. But Ivy's retarded brother (Adam Brody) named Noah stabs Lucious several times because he was worried that Ivy would run away with Lucious and won't be able to help him. So Ivy decides to cross through the woods to go and rechive medicine from a nearby village. The village's "Elders" agreed to her leaving the village but had to leave wearing the "safe color" (yellow) because the "creatures" are afraid of that color. Anyways Before she leaves (SPOILER) The elder goes into a shed and shows her a costume of what the creature looks like she felt it and immediately noticed what it was. The elder says that he got the idea out of a highschool textbook because it talked about creatures in the woods. So she crosses through the woods with no fear at all. But what she found was a creature. I was like WOAH. But she dodged it and it fell off a cliff. The face fell off of the creatures face and happened to be Noah (who died). But because of her blindness she couldn't tell that it was her brother. She went back to thinking that there actually was creatures. So she kept traveling to the end of the woods when she found a fence. Which she climbed over. And guess what? There was a present day road with a patrol car. I was once again shocked, WHOA. So she gave a list to the man that was in the patrol car and the man drove back to the office and got what she needed. So she went back to the village with the medicine and saved Lucious. And the elders had another chance to continue the village because of Ivy being blind and now thinking that there was creatures.
Anyways I loved the everything in the movie other then the present day twist.
And it had a a lot of plot holes but I'm not going to get into that.
It would of been perfect if it went with the twist ending that I came up with. When Ivy gets to the end of the woods she finds another village where the safe color is red and the bad color is yellow, because in the village that the movie's about the safe color there was yellow and the bad color was red. That would've been priceless. And the commercials were abit misleading it looked like a scary movie with a twist that you couldn't see coming. But instead itended up being a romantic thriller with a twist you could see coming from a mile away. But it was great I suggest it to anyone who liked,"The Sixth Sence".

In other words a poor man's Twilight Zone. But hell it was good enough for me.

the trailer for this looks pretty crappy😬

The trailer was the best thing about the movie.

I started the movie knowing I was going to be disappointed, because everyone told me I would. Because of this I admittly watched a bootleg copy. The twist with the time frame was predictible, the same with the monsters, but I was hoping for a different explanation. If you think about it, it was still a good slasher movie, we did have a derranged killer running in the woods after a blind girl. That was kinda scary, especially when you didn't know it was him. Overall I think it was an okay movie, it attempts to teach some lessons. What do you guys think.

Hmmm.. I did not think the trailer was misleading..\ I loved the flick. I have think Pheonix's new movie this fall is going to be a big hit, imho.

i ve notbeeen alble to see it yet 🙁

Well, since you did not catch Phoenix in the theater for his last flick, you could catch Ladder 49...from what I have seen in the trailer, it looks like a great action flick, imho. 😎

this movie was so boring I fell asleep.every movie I have seen the director of this movie make has sucked.after this last one,I am never going to see another film he directs. That is 3 films of his I have seen where i thought they all sucked. 😠

I totally agree.

lol.... likemany things..

I so didn't like it either....

where was the sense in that?
my friend and i had to laugh at the beginning and couldn't stop, but as the film got further it wasn't even funny anymore.... (just so you know, we laugh about a lot of stuff 😮 🙄 😄)
and it wasn't scary like at all 🙁
the end was just..... *sigh*
i'll advice everyone not to see it, it's wasted time.... 🙄

Pretty suspenceful movie. i became confused during the ending. But my friend gave me some good explantions. I still had a good time watching this horror film. Very good I'd liked it.

Is the DVD out yet?

OH MY GOD, THAT FILM IS SO CRAP ! ! !

I HATED the movie, I went there with a bunch of friends, and we were all excited and silly us, thought we were going to see a scary film with the atmosphere of 6th sense. Little did we know that Scooby Doo was by far more scary than this crappy thing 😐

absolutely pointless, it had no story, not even "depth" as a non-thriller story, I absolutely think that no-one should waste their time AND money on it 👇

Then maybe you should of seen what the genre was idiot.
It was entitled as Romance/Thriller.

Yeah the trailer was misleading but this movie is'nt the worst movie ever like some of u are making out. I think it was a pretty avearge movie. I liked Joaquins charcter in this movie he was so sweet, Joaquin can totally pull of the strong silent type.
