DC Films Vs Marvel Films

Started by ScarletSpider4 pages

It's not really DC taking the risks with the new DC comic book property movies. In the comic domain, DC controls it's characters completely. Many things outside of that are subject to the control of Warner Bros.

DC isn't taking a risk by casting Jack Black as Green Lantern. They're taking a punch in the face from their corporate big brother, and being forced to aquiesce. I respect Marvel a bit more for sticking in their, clawing their way out of a chapter 11, and keeping full control over all of their characters in every medium. This will allow them to make, for the most part, superior movies, I think. DC simply has too many voices and too many opinions, whereas Marvel represents their characters truly, giving direct input to the movies, and thus they reap the rewards and make money hand over fist.

Both companies are good I think, I'm a big Marvel fan, and I tend to lean more towards their characters and buy more of their books. Many people often credit DC with most of the "firsts" in comics history. However Marvel (as Timely and Atlas) made many of them too. The first character crossover was Marvel's, with a battle between Human Torch and Namor. This was the first step in establishing the comic universes of today.

I mean Marvel is one of the very few most-known companies in any medium, that is actually excellent.

I mean like in sports clothing it's Reebok (At the moment) which suck. You get them in everything, the big ones. The big companies I rarely ever any good at all really. Marvel is the one that does it. Of course there are so many mini companies as I'm sure Arac will agree, that are awesome too.

Batman and Superman first team up in 1957 when they fought Joker and Lex, and there human robots or what ever, What year did Torch and Namor team up?? I was sure Torch came around in the 60's.

Look it up and F4 4 came out in 1961, a good few years after Superman and Batman team up.

The original human torch, an android with the ability to control flame came out in 1938. Namor came out around the same time. Their creators were friends and had the idea to overlap the characters, and they appeared in Marvel Mystery Comics #15 together. Which came out in January 1941.

Here's the cover.

Any comments on the upcoming Marvel films I listed above in my other post?

Who do you think will have the next best film DC or Marvel?

Marvel, if DC's recent are anything to go by. Catwoman and Batman Begins aren't gonna compare to many of the Marvel properties.

Aquaman Headed to the Big Screen?
Source: FilmJerk
Thursday, August 26, 2004

FilmJerk reports that Aquaman may still be adapted for the big screen...

Sunrise Entertainment heads Alan and Peter Riche, whose credits include the feature film versions of "Starsky and Hutch" and "The Mod Squad," are the newest team to get Aquaman to the big screen. Our source indicates first-time scribe Ben Grant is currently writing the screenplay. However, the source was unable to verify whether the production will be an origin story or one which assumes filmgoers will be familiar with the character. There are no actors signed to any roles at this time.

The first Human Torch wasn't Johnny Storm. It was an android.

The original Human Torch began his existence is 1939 in the laboratory of Professor Phineas T Horton, one of the pioneers in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. The culmination of Horton's research was an android who mimicked virtually all of the functions of a human being, including independent thought, but was composed entirely of synthetic materials. The one flaw in the android's design concerned the photoelectric solar cells which covered every square inch of his body and served as his power source. The cells were too volatile and caused the epidermis of the android to burst into flame upon contact with air but without harming the android itself.

The only movie I ever really liked was the superman movies with christopher reeves and Batman Forever Marvel's characters tend to be more down to earth and more understandable.

Lately, Marvel movies >>>>> DC movies and are making more money. DC can only counter by remaking Batman and Superman again after so many movies have been made about them.
