As for getting lost... ummm... there are read-order lists out there you can follow, so you know exactly which issue of which series comes next...

The Venom outfit has been around like 20+ years and all we've been shown female-Venom wise is a mega deformed bald She-Venom in Weying and MJ and some model cronies w/their hair color exposed in Spiderman and Power Pack...

See the problem with this idea (and I'm not saying it is a bad idea in fact I would recomend this idea but let me get to that) is tracking down the issues you want to read. For example you can't tell the average person to go read The Amazing Spider-Man #300 to find out about Venom's orgin. They would have to go hunting for this issue or get lucky and Marvel does some sort of reprint special like what Ultimate Spider Man does. Half the things we are talking about are out of print. That's why I recommend just reading the gist of the issue. Find out summaries on the internet. It is faster and cheaper.
Also what I mean about getting lost is like (for example) you want to be a new avengers fan and you decide to pick up your first issue of them. You would get lost if you picked up their most recent one.

Your kidding, right? Most of the early Venom issues (especially ASM #300) have been reprinted countless times. You can goto any local book store that sells Marvel TPBs and more than likely will find some reprint of Venom's origin issues. Simply reading the stuff isn't in the least bit difficult. We're not talking hunting down an original copy of ASM #300 here.
Truthfully unless you're trying to buy and establish a "comic collection", chances are getting the issues you're after in a Trade Paperback are your best bet.
I know for sure that Amazing 298, 299, 300, 315-317 were reprinted in a TPB called Spiderman Versus Venom back in the early 90's. I also know that Larsens Venom issues, 331-333 and then the 345-347/348 stuff were also reprinted.
I'll bet you that some of the Venom mini-series are also reprinted, (most definitely Lethal Protector is I bet).
Good question is whether or not Spidey's earlier appearances wearing the alien costume have been reprinted or not, (as in his Marvel Team Up and Spectacular Spiderman appearances in the alien costume).
There are books I'm SURE won't appear in any compilation, like the early annuals with him in the costume... BUT... those are like $1 on Ebay at max.
