Why do people like Halo that much?

Halo still sucks as a PC game.

I was using the article to rebut Cal31's post.
The reason people think Halo is overrated is because reviewers gave it near-perfect/perfect scores. I think to get a perfect score it needs to be a perfect game and Halo is not a perfect game. Thus overrated.

But it didn't get a perfect score, it got docked because the level designs were repetative, which is definetely true, but it doesn't keep it from being a great game.

Did you read the article?

Because one of the editors mentions that some publications were giving near perfect to perfect scores. Check Gamerankings.com and see how many gave it 100% scores.

Level design is probably the most critical element for a first person shooter. Half life had amazing level design and never got boring. Halo has some of the worst level design and gets boring after awhile. Its fun for the first four rooms you clear, but after the 20th room, it gets really tedious.

i wouldn't say worst level design...not at all. Yes the indoor labrynth's are bad, but all of the outdoor levels are great. Even the outdoor parts of the highly repetitive Assault on the Control Room level.

You're so amazingly over critical of the game it's mind boggling. The game was rated that high at the time....now 2 years later people are ripping it apart as if it had come out a month ago...

and how does Halo suck on PC? Do you even have it on PC to make that sort of claim?

I run Halo on my PC and it runs much much better than on Xbox. The levels are more visually pleasing because you have a much higher resolution on your pc than on your TV. and then you figure in the mouse/keyboard instead of gamepad....and Halo on PC is wayyyy better than on console.

Especially with all the new weapons and vehicles in mulitplayer mode.

I have never mentioned that the game sucks because of its graphics or its tech aspects. My main gripe is that its highly repetitive and boring.

Wow, i dont care if it has higher resolution on the PC, or its better graphics. I go for gameplay over graphics. Graphics make it look nice and rewarding, but when thier is no gameplay to back it up, then screw graphics. And the graphics are shit anyways.

its not highly repetitive.. its one of few games i dont mind playing the single player campaign on... and while it may look a little better on pc.. i still find it more enjoyable on xbox

Halo is fine.. not everyone will like 100% of what any game has to offer, its just the way of things

It really makes me sad when people continue to lay this smack off on a game and console that has been out for a while now. you think they would lose their breath. I mean, I was a doubter at first, and i was peeved microsoft was making nintendo's life so hard...but after I played halo for 4 hours strait, and then got a hold of a type S controller...

so if you dont even have FPS in that list, then you shouldnt be on this thread.

also, no matter what anyone says, Halo is more enjoyable on a console. When you get into a 8vs8 shotgun CTF on wizard...and when your right their with your friends, taunting, cursing, and laughing when you blow up the tank....it adds to the expirience that cant be achived by typing over a comp

also...I like to think of the type S controller as a plasma pistol, and melee my friends with it when their stupid...now if only it went through moniters...FEAR THE CLAW!! 😈

Ive been saying that the level design is crap, which makes it repetitive and that makes boring. Thats gameplay.

Halos soooo good basically cus its full of aliens to kill with lots of kickass weapons to kill them with. Also theres the whole thing of having the warthogs and such to kill them with. Basicaillay its Sci-fi + violence+ lots of aliens = excellent game.

how true. if you read the books aka extended universe, you truly get a grasp on how awsome halo's sci-fi story is.

my favorite pastime is riding gunner on the warthog.

halo just merged vehicle riding so well into the gameplay, and now if your skilled, you'll be able to jack ppl's rides. it was the first console game to merge vehicle riding in so well.

you all can hate on Halo and halo 2(which you havent even played) all you want, but...

until you have your first Halo LAN party....you dont know halo.
