Why would he even go on the island if there is a virus...
there's no need for him to be on that island if there is a virus.... let alone a character that jack once ran into...

Maybe the reason he's on the island is because he somehow became stranded on it, or him being there has to do with something supernatural. You do know supernatural stuff happens on Lost right? Jack ran into him years before he crashed on the island.

From what I saw, Dez lived in an underground lab.. That lab had computers that were processing data, and systematically needed input from a user. He was also taking drugs daily..

He became stranded on that island and now lives underground in that lab?? nar he was put there... Remember he was in training before he arrived there, he knew he was going there...

I though that everything on lost had a plausible scientific explanation

seeing as there was a cloud of black smoke.. the thing that was throwing him about could have been hidden amongst the smoke...or the smoke could have had some sort of chemical in it that makes people have delusions or whatever😬..and im sure i read some where that JJ said there is a scientific explanation to most things that have happened on lost..
