Maybe maybe...

The package is back.... GREAT!!!

All I can say about tonight's episode is:

HOLY ****ING SHIT!!!

Things are really coming together and I have a good idea about what's happening now, lots of theories in my head, but I can't write them down because it will come out sounding very gibberish-like.

I knew Desmond was key to the whole time travel aspect. Afterall, he is "The Constant".

No, Penny is the Constant...to Desmond.

Spoiler:
Each Lostie has a constant that they need to find, to help bring them to the understanding of each universe. Charlie saw Claire in his near death experiences, I'm betting. He said that it was like he was always with her. Claire is Charlie's constant!

Desmond's mission in the alt timeline is to help everyone find their constant. I can just feel it.

Desmond on island is going to convince people to sacrifice themselves so that the alt timeline can come to be.

tonight's show simply rocked

Excellent episode. At first I didnt know whee they were going with the episode but it started picking up fast. I liked the chemistry between Desmond and Penny. One thing im very curious is what triggers the feeling Desmond was feeling once he touched Penny. It cant be touch because Charlies was triggered by near death experience. Also Kate had encounters with both Jack and Sawyer and nothing happened. Does that mean that neither one is her constant? Same for Jack/Locke and Sayid/Jin. The only thing im thinking is that none of the candidates have a constant. Also, If we go by Eloise, this new timeline gives them what they always wanted, then why is Kate still a fugitive?

Excellente episode that raises a lot of theories/questions. I wonder how they are planning on pulling everything together with 5-7 episodes left.

I really didn't understand the episode

Awesome episode. I just got a little confused when desmond went with sayid like he didn't give a shit.

Because his mission, given to him by Charles Widmore, is to go to the Losties. After his experience in the generator room, he knows that he needs to do what Widmore wants him to so he is just going right for it now.

Near death will bring about quick flashes of your constant, but actually being with them will release your mind from the fog of the multiverse. (Like I said, this is coming out like a bunch of crazy babble.)

When they were still at the airport there was a scene where Kate and Jack had seen each other and had a look on their faces of "Do I know you?" If they had touched, it might have been a similar experience to when Penny touched Desmond's hand.

I think Kate/Jack are constants. Sawyer/Juliet are as well, so in the alt universe Sawyer will have to find Juliet. Desmond asked for the manifest of the plane to seek everyone out and help them.

Daniel said his "constant" was desmond in his little notebook. Must rewatch that episode again.

For all we know, this is correct. Maybe a person can be multiple peoples constant.

No, Desmond is the anchor to it all. That's why they (the Widmore team) needed him for that machine and not joe blow off the street who wouldn't survive.

It's as if he has some gift or is some kind of "chosen one" required to fullfill something. Or my theory: since the crash was his fault to begin with (forgetting to punch the numbers), its his duty to play clean-up and undo everything. Sucks for him, because he'll be back in that basement having to push buttons every hour and a half. But hey I guess SOMEONE has to take it for the team.

Another possibility is that the constant thing works only one way.
Maybe the person you see in your near death moment is the person you are a constant for...

IE:
Penny= Constant for Desmond
Desmond=Constant for Daniel
Daniel=Constant for someone else yadayadayada

Maybe its some big chain.

Desmond is the "chosen one" when it comes to time travel and multi-verse hopping because of what happened to him at the swan hatch. That's what triggered his "special-ness." That's what Widmore was talking about when he said he survived the super crazy shit. All that energy beneath the swan turned Desmond into Doctor Manhattan or some shit.

its his destiny

It's not about constants I think. Widmore said it very clearly: the sideways timeline is what life would have been like without the island. And I think that also reads: without Jacob gently steering their lives. The focus is not on constants, the focus is on the island and why it needs a keeper, a successor to Jacob.

Jack best be new jacob

It should totally be Walt.

Which means my earlier theory that what we see in the sidetimelines is what happens after the island is destroyed/negated/escaped, thus retroactively undoing Jacob's influence may in fact be correct.. Yay...!

*'Smug mode' engaged* 🙂

I agree.
