10 million's not a lot when it comes to making a movie...
I was joking about the lightsabers, guys...and on the color...I was just watching part of the DVD (thank you sci-fi club!) and it is certainly blue.
And I've never even seen the SE's so I'm kinda wondering what to expect when I finally get to watch the DVDs...are the changes really THAT bad?

OOooh... temper temper.... THis is still a free forum, people can have their opinion.
And I can have contempt for it, which I do so for people who say GL has to be 'stopped'.
The only value of the earlier editions, in my opinion, is historical curiosity. I don't think he would make as much as some people thinm by releasing them, though ti amsuses me that some (not you, queeq) have used this as a lever for criticism, saying:
"Duh, why don't you release the Originals, you'll make all this money, I am returning my copy, that is $50 you aren't getting, you idiot..."
And are the same people that say at other times that George Lucas has sold out and will do anything for money, overriding any principle. A good demonstration of the nature of fanboyism, there...
Looks like he has done much cartoons. Look here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000434/

Noticed another fuk up. In ANH when the X-wing pilot captain guys says "I'm going cut across the axis and try to draw their fire" Then it bust into that shot of the X-wings barrol rolling, and it bust into that music. Well the music is gone! You can barely hear it.
I most certainly noticed this too.
I had a DVD night with about 15 friends and when Lukes much maligned "green" lightsaber came on screen, everyone in the room gasped!
One of you here on this forum seems to think it "looks" green simply because of the original tinge that is now supposedly accentuated because of the increase in contrast due to the new transfer and restoration. This is probably true but never the less, it remains GREEN.
I suggest any of you who think it looks blue in that scene either:
1) get your eyes checked immediately at your nearest optometrist
2) don't become electricians or bombsquad members, as you are clearly colourblind
3) check yourselves into DARPA because you are the next stage of human evolution that can supposedly see other colours to the rest of us.
I don't think the green lightsaber, missing music, and boxes around ships were intentional so I am not going on rant saying "Lucas what the hell did you do!" This looks more like screw ups, and/or unfinished work. Hopefully someone in LFL or even GL will answer or make a comment, because it seems really screwed up. Because the whole green light saber thing lasted only 5 seconds, and then it changed after that. When Luke gets hit in the leg by the remote it has a tint of blue in it. Also, even though the scene in OB1's crib the light saber was not fixed, for some reason it looked more blue and natural than I had ever seen it before.
I've always kind of had an excuse for why the lightsaber's blade looked so crappy in A New Hope. Since the lighsaber hasn't been used for over 18 years, the crystal in the hilt has deteriorated a bit, thus the blade looked weak and had no specific color. Then, Luke gets a new crystal somewhere along the line between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Thus the blade looks better in Empire Strikes Back.
Hehe.
Well guys, my box set turned up today and I have just finished watching ANH. Yep, its green 🙁 Because I had read all the stuff on the forum before I watched it, I was looking for it. It changes from green to white, why didnt anyone at lucas film say "hang on a mo, lukes sabre looks green"? They spruced obi ones and vaders up so well too. Apart from that and the square shapes around the tie fighters in one scene, it looked really good.
One thing I can't understand is why have the green flashes been added to the obi/vader duel? The lightsabres have been spuced up and look really good but why the flashes??

No, it does NOT remain green, just it can SEEM green. It IS blue, and remains so throughout the scene, and it is your eyes that are faulty for net seeing it. It is the SAME colour that is is in the rest of the scene. Sorry, but it is, and my pity is with those determined to see otherwise.
Meanwhile, Irvin Kershner's commentary on the ESB disc is fantastic, especially compared to GL's in-depth but rather dry discourse.
I can't believe that all these people are complaining about the colour of a lightsabre! Did they complain in 1977? No! Coz in 1977 Lukes lightsabre was the coolest thing they'd ever seen. I don't give a monkeys if it hasn't been altered to please all these young fans, the important thing is that the Old Testament is finally here on DVD. Everyone should rejoice. Oh God, I'm startin to ramble, I'm tired, I'm goin to bed.

Sorry, JP, but in my opinion, only irritating purists think like this. I saw the originals first and I have no cloud of nostalgia making me think they are better. GL has done the right thing.

WOW Ush, gotta disagree with ya there pal. First of all I am NOT an irritating purist! Bad form there. 🙁
Secondly, nostalgia is behind a great many movies and the reasons why people love them. If you stop and think about it, almost every movie that has some special significance to you I'll bet you can remember many things going on with you at the time you saw it. There doesnt HAVE to be a reason based in logic nor historical fact in order for some of us to love the theatrical version better. And while I am on the subject I'm not such a die hard purist that teensie little things bug me. As I've said before I never even SAW the rancor lines or the vasaline under the speeder and its fine if GL sticks Hayden into the end of ROTJ. But from THIS fan's point of view anyway the SE's blow IMHO. BUT I have never went the GL sold out or GL is sucking his fans dry route. I think he has every right to do what he wants to make the movies the way he envisioned them. BUT, I also dont think it would have killed him to release the theatrical versions on DVD for those of us that prefer them. Given a choice the latter is the one Id have bought for sure. While the current DVD release is George's idea of the completed films, I as a fan view the theatrical version as the completed films and the SE's and DVD's to be computer altered copies. And honestly the reason I bought them was to have the whole saga on DVD. Will I be tossing out my tapes that I bought in the 80's? NOPE, and I will never change my mind about this, cause the newer versions arent going to grow on me because they dont have the specific memories associated with them that the theatrical version do. 😉
notice I can diagree with ya and not call ya a name too 😱
