Yes, my friend. You don't 'consciously' choose these genes, but cause them to arrange into action. Remember that there can be no cause without effect. And that cause and effect is simultaneous, i.e. whenever there is a cause, the seed of its fruits is planted immediately.
The specific (past) action or actions leading to homosexuality,specifically I don't know - maybe a deep fear or hate of a specific gender or unhappiness with ones sexual experience in life? Or a sexual obsession or related condition? I really don't know that.
The point is that we really do choose and create our own lives. We are solely responsible for the quality of our lives through the smallest choices and thoughts we entertain...if that makes any sense to you.

So, what past trangression causes someone to end up gay? Because the way you explain it, being gay is a form of punishment for some past-life misdeed. I'm sure kharma and reincarnation are valid to some, but to others it isn't. So, what past sin makes you gay? Maybe beating up a gay guy in my former life has caused me to be gay?

Maybe we are looking at it wrong. If this were true, and "karma" somehow dictates things like this, then maybe it is reflective of noble past lives, homosexuality could actually be some a form of reward for some past good deeds or virtuos living. 😉

Yeah, I considered that aspect. So, we do something noble in a past life, and then we are put to an even further test in thisone, and then we reach enlightenment and proceed to heaven for the hardships endured in this life.
