That actually seems like a well thought out idea =o

Thank you. I try. I'll be sure to say something stupid soon though so don't give me too much credit.

As a random comment:

I was reading through the last few pages and went over the Buddhism as a religion or whatnot argument and I must say--that was possibly the stupidest, most inane debate EVER. I mean, it COULD have been a decent discussion, but what the hell ever happened to non-retarded arguments that actually made a whit of sense? The entire thing hinged on whether or not the Dalai Lama was given authority over something or another and I wish that I had saved myself the time so I could waste it replying to Whirly's thread(s).

(Wait for it...wait for it...)

thats a very well thought out post that i agree with....................oh wait, it's in the wrong thread. this isn't the Dalai Lama thread, this thread is about homosexuality, but nice try

It was a non-debate. It started in another thread, and spilled over into this one. Whob just can't admit when he's wrong. Can someone tell me why anyone would ever debate the total authority of the Pope! in regards to the Catholic religion? There's a reason we call him teh "Supreme Pontif" for christ's sake. And the Dalai Lama holds a similar position in Buddhism. Which is one example of why Buddhism isn't a technical religion. Because Buddishts don't consider him teh supreme authority of their philosophy because he was elected to it. He has reached a higher level on enlightenment, in the mind of his followers. So, they venerate him in that regard.

I must say, it was an absolute delight to see Elton John taking David Furnish up the aisle.

How am I wrong? Answer these questions Cap..

How are the Pope/Dalai Lama total authorities on anything?

Do they get this authority from themselves or do others give them this "authority"?

Moving on..you all are more foolish than I thought if you truly think that an individual's opinion can somehow give them "authority" on something. I'd like to see you all go in front of a judge after commiting a crime and then after he sentences you to jail time say...

"You can't put me in jail..I'm innocent. I am an authority regarding my guilt or innocence."

Sorry Cap..it doesn't work that way. On top of that..The damn dictionary and the Tibetan Website state Buddhism as a religion.
But I won't debate this any longer..its obvious that these concepts are waaaaay above your heads.

And you all call me retarded?

😆 😆

Fece..the argument was just above your head my friend. You couldn't comprehend it, because you don't possess the intellect necessary to do so. Sure..you are good at making one line retorts from time to time, and pointing out the minor spelling/grammar errors of the people on the board, but I believe that's the limit of your abilities my friend.

On another note..have you considered being a proofreader, it's actually a fairly good profession my friend. It generally pays roughly 12-15 dollars an hour, and its usually a position that's given to savants and social misfits. I can send you an application if you like. What's your e-mail adress.

Well, I don't think you're retarded. I just think you have a bit of profound mental disability. Well, actually, I'm just being as redundant as you are.

The Pope is the supreme authority on the chatholic religion. And if you were to say that you are the authority on your innocence in a trial, then you would have to recognize the authority of teh judge sitting on that trial. So, the Pope is like the judge in your little scenario. The Pope is the elected authority on all matters of faith in the catholic church.

The Dalai Lama is a bit different. He is the professed leader of the Buddhist philisophical science. Therefore, he (in the opinion of Buddhists) has attained a measurable enlightenment, and thus has the ability to be the best teacher on the subject. Reincarnation and all that jazz. I'm not very familiar with the method, but Buddhists believe he is an authority because he's an "old soul" as people say.

Is Government a higher authority than the Pope?

I like the "in the opinion of Buddhists" statement. Guess what?
Buddhist opinion..does not over ride government authority. You follow?

In the second part of my argument I stated this...

"if you can prove to me that the Dalai Lama get's his authority from a power higher than government..then your argument would have credibility."

So that being said..where is the proof? Show me what "supernatural" powers give the Dalai Lama this unquestionable authority. Until you all can do this..then your argument is pretty much dead. Simple as that.

Why were these things so hard for you all to understand?

ughh its back Ill grab the popcorn and sodas for everyone.
