every other song is the shit, my favorite would be....well....ALL OF THEM
i cant choose a favorite, this CD is perfect. Sweet art, sweet tunes. Props to Maynard and the gang for hitting another home run
Ahhh, I ordered mine in the mail, still hasn’t come yet 😠
Everyone seems to love it. Is it their best so far? Too early to tell? Does it sound more like Aenima, or Lateralus, or Undertow…or is it a completely new sound? Is it harder 🤘 , or more progressive, or "trippy" (for lack of a better word), or more chill? Can you describe the sound/feel of the album? Does it defy words?

I love the way that people are immediately holding it up under a microscope as if it's a competition between their other albums.Just enjoy the album, jeez. It's been out for about a day and people are already looking for ways to critique it.

Being that our opinions of it are subjective, it will always have potential to be critiqued, though if you're going to critique it, do so.It's just all this "Is it better/worse than?" bs that annoys me.

apples........oranges
It's not better than Lateralus, as yet, to me. I'd like to just sit back and enjoy it for what it is, but I'm naturally a very critical listener so I couldn't help comparing even if I tried. Saying that, I think I need to allow it a little more time to sink in. The first quarter of the album I can't get enough of already though.
Tool are like Opeth, The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree and Deftones; I honestly cannot see them ever making a bad, or even a just sub-standard record. It's not in their makeup.
Of course it needs more time, it's been out since May 1st here. It's been a couple of days. How is it already going to be better than an album that has gotten significantly better over half a decade? I wouldn't be surprised if people are still getting things out of it (10,000 Days) in years time.
Porcupine Tree? Never heard Metanoia? Or do you actually consider that good? I think The Sunday of Life... is disturbingly patchy and so is The Sky Moves Sideways.
I think the Tremulant is the worst thing The Mars Volta have put out. Though saying that, it's a three song EP. I don't think the latter three deserve being put on the same plateau as Tool.
Opeth have albums that I would hold up there, Morningrise etc. That's Opeth though. However, blisteringly talented they may be, I don't think they've got anywhere to go now. In terms of musical evolution. They'll continue to make great albums, but I doubt it'll be anything innovative. Tool have significantly evolved each time. Only surpassed in such a way (as stated previously by VVD), maybe, by Radiohead and definitely Patton.
That said, I do get the point you were making, I was just sort of saying things.
