If you like Lateralus as much now and for the exact same reasons, as you did then, fine. I'm just making the comment that a week into its release I don't think it's fair to say it's not better, definitely, than an album that has been out 5 years.

So I just got it today...Only had time to listen to the first 5 tracks, all were excellent. But as AC said, Tool is a tough band to judge on your first listen. Ill need to hear the songs more.

That would depend on how you define weak, and then apply it.
I don't think it's weak, I think it's an extremely powerful album and is, in some areas, much heavier than their previous work.

A) I was asking you something. You complained it was slow, why? It was meant to be. They're not exactly a thrash metal band. It's not like they've never done slow music.
B) Yes, that would be why this is a Tool thread. I'm certainly not saying they are unjudgeable (as previously stated in the post above yours). I'm just saying it's not wise to do that with a Tool album so early.

What exactly do you mean by weak? Like in what sense of the word. The album in my eyes was very moving. It's a very spiritual album, and not much is more powerful than that. To me anyway.

I don’t mean weak in the sense that it’s not heavy; a lot of the songs are pretty heavy at times.
I don’t know...maybe I haven’t given it enough time, but this album really didn’t grab me the way I thought it would. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I found myself getting bored with it at times. I thought Maynard’s vocals felt a bit restrained for the most part, and Adam’s riffs were relatively bland and uninspired. Maybe I need more time to let it grow on me, but I just thought it was just plain boring at times.
I’ll be listening to Stadium Arcadium in the meantime.
