Kay. A good villain that does not make. Hody has no motive, no signs of a sympathetic character, and is all around just an evil and incompetent git. He was one of the worst things about this arc.

Most any of the Straw Hats were above Luffy's crew. According to Oda, Shanks would have knocked them all out with Haki. Of the Shichibukai, only Moriah strikes me as maybe having a hard time with them(because of the shadows weakness to salt). It doesn't make our heroes look strong, it makes the Fishmen(all of them) look weak.

Racism and distrust aren't cured overnight. With someone like Jinbei giving Luffy his blood, I think it hit home a little more for the fish folk since he is someone they respect. It lets them know that change is supported by people of higher standing and that they will not be persecuted for aiding humans. You have to remember, these were the same people who up until a few hours before this point, would have been killed for giving blood to humans.
They DID go from racist to accepting in a few minutes but not when most people would have. They were going to let Luffy DIE because of their racism and that was right after he saved them from Hody. Not all of them as roughly 1% of them are good. The rest? Pfft, who cares about Straw Hat? They're safe now, may as well let him die.

I mean that one village did sell out King Tiger even though he was bringing back a child to her mother. And then they looked the other way when he was mercilessly gunned down. Not to mention the slavery thing. When several of your people go up to the surface and are forced into slavery, what would you think of humans? It's basic nature to judge all by the actions of a few. You yourself had said that you viewed almost all fishmen as basically racist when in reality, it was really only Hodi and his crew that held any strong hatred towards humans from what I can remember. Most of the fishmen simply displayed distrust and fear, and when given their experiences with what they hear about humans, and the back lash they recieve from Hodi for aiding them, this should be easy to understand.
You just mentioned that the Fishmen population were racist not one paragraph ago. Not all of them, just most of them. And no, the Fisher Tiger story doesn't count. Know why? Cause he's a pirate. The government didn't kill him because he was a Fishman. They killed him because he was a dangerous pirate. And the people in the village were either going to sacrifice him and save a little girl or watch them eventually kill Tiger anyway and see the girl put back in slavery(see, humans can be enslaved too). There really was no alternative and a little girls life was on the line. Fisher Tiger and his crew were the ones who turned it into a situation about race because they're really the racists.
