The more I think about it, the more I think Usopp is actually doing exactly what he would. He did train, yes, and he certainly gained some confidence. It can't be easy to shake off a lifetime of cowardice and lying, though, and Usopp has consistently been the one to quake in his boots when it came to fighting any of the big names in OPverse.

He actually seemed to be more convinced he was leaving them behind than normal, and the circumstances are pretty bad ones.
Keep in mind, *most* of the time he runs, it's leaving Strawhats, who can fend for themselves, or luring the enemy into some place.
This time... he ran for a buncha chapters with people he'd directly told he'd support, beaten up in front of him without him even slightly trying first.
Some boot-quaking I don't mind. Running when he can, sure. But with comrades, even new comrades, in danger? Not so cool.
I don't care for Kyros as a human cause he seems way angstier than his backstory(about murdering some dudes) warrants. He always just looked like a dork.
Once he became the Toy Soldier that all changed and he is bar none one of the most sympathetic characters since probably the timeskip began. Only Fisher Tiger surpasses him in all likeliness.
Rebecca continues to cry though. Not a very interesting dynamic she's got going on.
You fiend Aura how dare you not praise Oda for making yet another rather unjustly sad backstory for a character.
But seriously Oda can we get back to Doflamingo being a boss again. Then we have Kyros being turned into the toy soldier as if anybody didn't see that coming 😖igh: granted that the toy soldier is probably the most likable person introduced in this arc so that's a plus.
