there are a lot of vice admiral..why would smoker get to be admiral??he can't just skip rank like that..

People seem to be mistaking my fanboyish wet dream as something they can discourage through logic.

Anyway, Smoker is incredibly high in rank for someone his age, and Oda has stated that his rebellious attitude holds him back. So maybe his actions nab him the promotion.

Who was the last Vice-Amiral we saw apart from Garp? If we haven't seen any in a while, maybe they all died in the battle.

i doubt there was even one vice admiral who died during the battle..a giant vice admiral is shown defeated by WhiteBeard but probably not dead..

Meh, regardless of what anyone says, Smoker's got a promotion coming.

The Blackbeard pirates are probably gonna mirror the strawhat pirates. Strawhats need one more pirate tho. Luffy vs. Blackbeard, Usopp vs. Van Auger, Zoro vs. the Impel Down guy, and so on

Garp already rejected becoming an Admiral several times, he would probably be in Sengoku's position if he pursued his career, but he never wanted to be promoted. I don't see why that would change now.

I would think that one of the Vice-Admiral get promoted and Smoker gets promoted as well into that Vice-Admiral position. I don't think Smoker is ever going to be higher than Vice-Admiral because he just want to climb ranks to pursue Luffy and he doesn't like to be ordered around.

I don't care. Smoker's pretty lame imo. Mabye it'll be the hot chick with the bondage power.

The difference is that Ace has a personality and character development, Smoker just has a gimicky 'I smoke two cigars at once!' thing.

Plus Ace would kick smokers ass.

and having your chest ripped out isn't character development. Though it was the only direction a character as bland as Ace could go.

Smoker is fine, he's the only opponent the SHs have that has been shown improved since the first time they faced him.
