Smoking should it be ban?

I smoke outside if necessary. I never light up in someone else's house unless I have permission and if I know they don't smoke, I don't ask if I can anyway. If I'm already smoking somewhere that allows it and someone comes into the room and then asks me to stop, that's when I refuse. There has to be a limit, I suppose. Just as I wouldn't walk into a room smoking if I was unsure whether it was acceptable, a non smoker shouldn't walk into a room where smoking is allowed and expect the smoking to stop.

Here in Nevada the voters recently approved a smoking ban that would have affected everywhere except casino floors and stand alone bars (the kind that don't serve food). Despite this being what the majority wants a small group of business owners have sued and been granted a temporary stay thus ensuring that a minority of the population (only 21% of the US population smokes) can continue to subject the majority to their noxious carcinogen if a non smoker wishes to patronize a bar, restraunt, or gambling establishment with a limited liscense.

Smokers rights my fukking a$$. If you have the right to smoke then I have the right to commit murder, it's the same thing. Thousands of non smokers die every year of lung cancer caused by second hand smoke.

If a business owner wants to allow smokers in thats THEIR right since it's their business. If you don't like it don't go there, makes more sense to me then just making it illegal.

I don't agree. Smoking kills. And you are protecting an ever smaller minority this way. Don't worry though, spout off about "business owners rights" all you want but the day is coming where smoking will be banned everywhere except in private homes, and that's how it should be.

Why should a small business owner not have the right to allow smoking in his coffee shop if he has no problem with it? As long as a sign is posted outside and everyone is aware that there is smoking inside, what's wrong with it? If you don't like the smoke, don't go in. Simple.

banning smoking in public places i agree with. but these nimrods who wanna ban smoking in pubs? thats taking it too far. smoking and drinking go hand in hand.

I would love to see smoking banned in all public places.

This is happening in pubs and clubs all over the country, but it isn't happening in all public places.

I would like to see workers banned from taking a 'smoko' 2-3 times a day. There is no need to go outside, and have a ciggarette eithor before or after your lunch break.

I would like to see tougher smoking laws in all public places-the MCG for example, bus/tram/train stops, outside workplaces/hospitals.

This might sound a little harsh, but I strongly believe that a persons right to maintain good health far outweighs the right for people to chose to be unhealthy.

There needs to be tougher anti-smoking laws-at the moment, the commercials we see on television are having effect, nor is the printing of graphic images on ciggarette packets. Shop owners are simply turning these packs over so as not to offend their customers.

So what more can we do to deter people-young people especially-from taking up this habit?

I believe in banning smoking in films. Reason being, young people are more likely to take up a habit such a smoking if they see their favourite actor/actress/singer doing it.

Celebrities have so much power these days-they could use some of that power to reach out to the youth of today, their fans, and dissuade them from smoking.

Schools could also do so much-why can't teenagers see what effect smoking has on them by learning this in science class?

Parents are also an influence. Studies have shown that young people are nearly twice as likely to take up smoking if one or both parents smoke. Of course, we can't remove children from their parents just because they smoke, as smoking is not a crime-so what can be done?

I'd like to know the reason for people taking up smoking in the first place-is it because their friends smoke? Is it because it's 'cool'? Is it because they are trying to impress? Is it because their parents smoke, or a favourite celebrity smokes?

I think if we knew some of the reasons why people take up smoking in the first place, we would be better able to tackle this problem.

yes smaking should be ban.fm

Should it be outlawed?What do you think/JM 😮‍💨 😠
Yes. ✅

Especially to help protect the staff in bars and restaurants. One of the reasons I had to give up my last job was because the smoke in the bar area of the restaurant made me feel so ill, and I wasn't even in that part very often. For the people that worked in there full time it was even worse.

Good.

Why? Even non-smokers get 2, 3, even 4 breaks a day. Why can't someone who smokes go outside and smoke a cigarette during his 15 minutes?

Like?

Yes, because obviously the only time you would ever see this label is when the cashier hands you the cigarettes.

Should we ban murder on film? Adultery? Drinking? Stealing? At what point does it stop being mild censorship and become outright propoganda?

Celebrities have so much power these days-they could use some of that power to reach out to the youth of today, their fans, and dissuade them from smoking.

I do believe some do.

I don't know about your school, but my high school covered smoking in Health class.

Parents are also an influence. Studies have shown that young people are nearly twice as likely to take up smoking if one or both parents smoke. Of course, we can't remove children from their parents just because they smoke, as smoking is not a crime-so what can be done?

Nothing.

Maybe a combination of all those reasons. I started smoking because I was stressed out in A School and because the Navy didn't want me to do it. At that point in my career, I was doing everything and anything I could that was against 'Navy standards.' Part of the problem is just that - constant demonizing of a product is only going to cause kids to want to do it. Just to rebel.

Because let's face it smoking is cool.

Look. James Dean did it. And it wasn't the death of him. 😊

Just stop- it's up to you. Simple, but true.
