You're talking about the movies - Mckellen was playinga straight character, so his personal preferences didn't come into it. Thewlis and Oldman were playin straight characters - likewise. In the novels it would have a terribly adverse effect, due to the fact that they aren't treated as normal, and it's bsaic instinct to think that there is something 'different' about it - if there wasn't something different, this argument wouldn't exist! Basically, it would take the focus off the point of the novels, and onto this more controversial issue.

Doesn't matter, Sirius and Lupin cant be gay anyway. Sirius is dead and Lupin is with Tonks.

I don't think you understand me - Sirius is straight, Lupin is straight, Gandalf is straight - Thewlis, Mckellen and Oldman aren't. They ewre playing straight characters, hence the performance didn't suffer. Comprendé?

there is no need for that in the book, besides, childrens book! how many parents want to explain to their children what homosexuality is? does there really have to be someone gay in everything!?! 😬 i mean seriously what would be the point?
i don't think children should have to hear it.

oh and excepting people for who they are has nothing to do with it, it's just not necissary in a childrens book.

Okay, if you haven't noticed, the books are kinda going away from the childrens section. Besides, kids will find out sooner or later, who really cares if it is now? I'm not saying put in gay people, but hell, there is no reason they shouldn't have because there is nothing wrong with it. Frick! THIS IS WHY WE HAVE WARS PEOPLE! THIS IS WHY PEOPLE DIE! You're being a bit naive here - you can say 'there's nothing wrong with it' all you want, and I'll agree with you - but the fact remains that a large percentage of people think there is, and they're entitled to their beliefs just as much as you. It doesn't make them wrong, it just means that their views differ. If they were put into the HP novels, then there would be huge controversy, and would take the focus off the actual storyline, thus ruining what has been a great series.

It's a children's book. There is no need to mention a character's sexuality. The majority of the world considers homosexuals to be deviant. This would definitely interfere in reading the book for most people. Can you imagine the uproar (there would be more uproar over a character being a homosexual than being a wizard/witch).
