I havent read it or seen it... but which should I do first?
Read it. It's an excellent comic. The movie is good too, but feels rushed because they have so much material to cover in such a short time. You also lose a lot of the backstory of the minor characters because of the time constraints.
Finally saw it last night. Pacing is a little rushed sometimes, but overall thought it was an excellent adaptation, paring down to neccessary characters and events. I know Alan Moore protested about it being recreated as some kind of anti-Bush parable set in England, but when he wrote it he was observing events in Thatcherite England, and imagined how things could unfold in a couple of decades. The Wachowski's simply did the same thing; with no Cold War looming, it's about the current War On Terrorism, and where this might lead to totalitarian rule in the name of security, plus the religious right corrupting the base of power.
